cybulski. very interesting link and very good post. If Viking is used to describe travel, discovery and trade than indeed, those people were vikings. Here in Virginia I live near an area where Poles immigrated to, while America was still a part of Great Britian and before we became an independent country (Jamestowne and Williamsburg).
Yup! Poles with Southern style Kielbasa and Southern accents.
Happy New Year to you and your family.

Bob,

There are claims that the story about Poles teaching the early English settlers how to survive and thrive in the wilderness are exaggerated. Do you have a locak basis or documentation for the story orwhat is the basis?

Gracias.

Hello kai. I never heard of that story before and I wouldnt't have any evidence of it. The English residents in Virginia did ask Polish glass makers to come to the new world to set up a glass making operation in Jamestown. Glass serving utensils were made for the governors of the Virginia colony. Today, a set of glass serving utensils including plates, bowls and drinking glasses are given to every Governor at their innaugration. Replicas of the glass items can be purchased at the reconstructed glass making plant in Jamestown. When the English colonists moved the capital from Jamestown to Williamsburg; Polish craftsmen were invited by the English to come to the new world and help construct the buildings. Historic Williamsburg is open to the public and the people who work in this area are attired in Period Costume. The Polish Craftsmen that helped build Williamsburg also held the first labor strike in America.

Hi Cybulski,

Excellent presentation of history. Very similar to the history we studied in school. Wendel (Sorbs) (Wends). Much may be said of the Slavs and Northman (Viking)Dnmark/Sweden.

The above url is a bit to add to your very fine presentation. Just klick on what ever language and go from there with the menue.

One suggestion: if to click on Sorbs (Wends) gives an excellent situation of history.
