Jaga: I saw the CNN TV show on Warsaw Uprising,(1944) and IMO its excellent. Visit the CNN site for slide show, photos, etc.:
http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/presents/ One of the first actions of the Polish underground during this uprising was liberation of a concentration camp containing Jews.
Since Stalin didnt want Poles to liberate Warsaw to allow Soviet Union to occupy Poland after the war, he didnt allow Soviet military to aid the Polish resistance, and as a result, they were slaughtered by the Nazis. Stalin wanted to occupy Poland as a gateway to the West and buffer against Germany.
The show claims that Roosevelt supported Stalins decision in order to keep Soviet Union as an ally in the war. IMO Roosevelts motive was to keep Soviet Union as a covert business partner in the Cold War planned to follow WW2.
Also, IMO during WW2, the Polish resistance should have joined forces with Yugoslav and Albanian partisans, as these were highly effective vs. the Nazis and prevented Soviet occupation of their countres. Carl
