Hi Frank,
I've missed you here, hope all is well with you and yours. I know you don't like politics but stop by and say Hello and post something interesting to discuss. I like talking with you. Take care and when you have time say Hello!!
Barbara
p.s. How was your Easter? Do you have Easter Basket blessing in your area? By the way, have you been to the Ukrainian Church again and have you tried your hand with making Pisanki. I did some but they are not very good, I can't seem to make straight lines, the ones I made with flowers came out O.K. but I won't be showing them to anyone. I have to practice for awhile before I show any of them off. Maybe by next Easter I'll get better at it.

Barbara's I went to that Ukanian Church again Saturday.. My wife backed out.. So I went alone. I checked everything out good this time..I watched the Ladies make Pysanki.. My God,, they are true artist. They tried to teach me.. LOL forget it.I watched them for hours.. It took one lady three hours to make one.. But it was the most beautiful egg that i ever saw.. It was black I know how they make the Red Beet Borscht. They make it the same as we do.. Spare Ribs, Red Beets, sour cream ,milk and flour.. They add vinegar like my Mom taught me for tartness.. No wonder I liked it so much. The Baker gave be five loaves of breads to take home.. Their Pierogi are LOUSY,, like Rubber.,. YUCK I watched how they make them..They use flour whole eggs and water.. Thats it. In mine I use flour whole eggs and eggyolks.. Instead of water.. I use sour cream.. Then I boil them and fry them in onions..The dough melts in your mouth.. I made sixty of them for Easter.. The kids wiped me out.. I made twenty of each.. Sweet cabbage with fried onions, potato and cheddar cheese,, and farmers cheese. Cleaned out. I also made two Babkas.. We have a Polish Deli here that get her sausage flown in fron Chicago.. There too much more to mention.. We had fourteen people here.. It was great.Thats where I spent most of my time last week cxooking and baking. There is more.. But lets give it a rest

Barbara.. I read your Pysaki post.. You are SOOOO right.. Just like my CIOTKA.. Watching her as a kid making PYSANKI.. She shook the egg vigriously to break the yolk.. She then peirced both ends with a needle and blew out the inside.. They did this at the Ukranian Church also. But I was told that you can also leave the inside intact.. But it wont last as long???

Hi Frank,
I'm happy you had time to reply to me. You sure have been very busy cooking, baking and visiting the Ukrainian Church.
You make pierogi just the way I do, I don't use any water because the dough is like rubber..YUCK. You only made 60 pierogi for 14 people? Oh MY, that would never be enough in my family, everyone pigs out on pierogi, my Mother and I made 140 pierogi and we almost ran out, we had dinner at my brother's house and we had about 20 people. We always make extra pierogi so that some can take them home, this year we didn't have any extra's left over.
The borscht is also the way my Babcia and I make it, my Mother she likes it made with chicken, but I think it has a better flavor with spare ribs and that is how my Babcia taught me, everytime I make it I think of her and how she loved to teach me how to cook and bake. She used to make the BEST bread, I wish I had learned how she made it.
What is this website you mentioned to Basia? I would like to know about it.
Take care and talk to you soon!!

Hi Barbara, I was hoping that you would find my answer to you..There is still much more that I want to tell you.. but it is no hurry. About the number of pierogi that I made.. I thought that it would be enough,, but more people popped in than I expected You are right though.. The pierogi went first. About that URL that Basia sent me.. It was not a URL it was E -mail. I would not know if it can be posted on here.. I am not that savvy on the computer.. Barbara, I know that you are very protective of your E-mail,, and I respect that..But just in case you might want to write me.. My new E-mail is nunczka@tnh.net If you feel uneasy with that, just keep posting in here.. This is just fine.. I have more to tell you.. Look for me every day

Hi Frank,
I check this site every day and always look for interesting topics to discuss.
Thank you for your email address.
Yes, in my family the pierogi went so fast we didn't believe that they were gone. Some people stopped by later on and we didn't have any to share with them and they came especially for pierogi. My sister-in-law is German and her family loves pierogi, but they never make them, so for Easter it is a big treat for all of them. Since my Father died my Mother is all by herself and she gets lonely, so she cooks and bakes for all of us. It is something for her to do to keep busy and every fews days we go over to pick up all our goodies that she has prepared for us. I have started to do this also with my family, since I don't work anymore, I like to cook and bake and my daughter's drop by to pick up their goodies.
Enough for now, I will talk to you soon.
Barbara
