lzcuchet writing and thanking everyone who participated in answering my question about land ownership in Poland.

Another question - but first a scenario:
My husband is Italian - he got up on google search and typed in "dual citizenship" and found out the following.
If his grandfather came from Italy - and his grandmother came from Italy (which they did!) - and if they were married or not married (meaning they married once they got over to USA) and had children, "BEFORE" - they became US citizens, ....
those children and their children could apply for dual citizenship as American and Italian citizens.

Anything like this for Poland.
Both my grandfathers and grandmothers came from Poland - had their children before becoming US citizens. In fact, I think one grandmother never did become a US citizen.

I guess I might add a "tag" here - what if a person could get dual citizenship - would they qualify for land ownership............or what if you grandparents were land owners in Poland once, and you could talk to the responsible party to sell to you - what if you wanted to get your family land back!

Jaga would probably be the best person to answer your question. It's a tricky situation that would require a lot of research.

However, my advice is that it's definately going to be best to wait until after Poland officially enters the EU (at the beginning of May), and to leave some time for things to settle down first.

Lily,

You would have to ask in the Polish consulate but I do not believe that they would grant you Polish citizenship just because your grandparents were Polish. Although my daughter has Polish citizenship since she is my child and I am Polish - in spite of the fact that she was born in the USA. So, she really has a dual citizenship and she also is signed in my Polish passport.

I am not sure about your husband. In any ways, if any of your could really have a dual citizenship you should be able to buy some land in Poland - after Poland would join the EU and after a couple of years.
