Recently, I read where the USDA is going to prohibit the sale of kiszka due to Mad Cow desease. This should put a lot of cariologists out of work.

Hey Frank, go to Spain, over there it is called morcilla. It isn't exactly like you find in Poland but so close that it should be considered a fraternal twin brother. Just a couple of different spices added.

Lyrics to Jewish song: Who stole the Kishka:

Who Stole the Kishka
(Trad.)

Someone stole the kishka
Someone stole the kishka
Who stole the kishka,
from the butcher's shop?
Who stole the kishka?
Who stole the kishka?
Who stole the kishka?
Someone call the cops!

Fat and round and firmly packed
It was hanging on the rack
Someone stole the kishka
When I turned my back
Who stole the kishka?
Who stole the kishka?
Who stole the kishka?
Someone bring it back!

Someone stole the kishka
Someone stole the kishka
Who stole the kishka,
from the butcher shop?
Who stole the kishka?
Who stole the kishka?
Who stole the kishka?
Someone call the cops!

Yusef found the kishka
Yusef found the kishka
Yusef found the kishka
And he hung it on the rack.
He found the kishka
He found the kishka
He found the kishka
Yusef brought it back
Heeeeeyyyyyyyy
Hey!
huh-huh-huh-huh

No, I do not make my own Kiszka.. We have a Polish Deli near where I live.. All the goodies are shipped in from Chicago. I love Kiszka,as much as Charnina.. But when I think how it is made.. I have problems with that.. But this is the way we were brought up..
Carl:
By some of your comments.., I get the impression that you are part Jewish? Am I close?

Frank, we also buy Kiszka from a local Polish store in NJ & don't cook it.
Im a mix:
My parents & I were born in USA. Through my late grandparents who immigrated to USA in early 1900's, I have these traditions:
Cultures: German, Austrian, Albanian*, Ukrainian, Kazakh
Religions: Judaism, Ukrainian Orthodox Christianity, Islam

I believe in God, but don't follow any religion.
Thanks. Carl

You folks should be thankful you have all this good Polish food avialable in your neighborhoods. I have to make a weekend trip to buy great food.

My wifes side of the family compares Kishka to French Canadian blood sausage. To me it is as different as day and night.

My son and I are the only two who have not strayed from the fold for traditional food. tut viking <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Carl!

Scroll down to my question to Jaga. ( Mala Polska) Her answer to me is priceless.. It will be of interest to you too. From what you told me about your heritage
Carl. You are a pretty sharp guy..I am researching a Place called Buckovina.. I never heard of it before.. It looks like your roots go bact to there. Bukowina is a part of Roumania. Hungry,Poland, Austria and Russia.

I will get back to you on this..
PS I traced my Father to Bremen Germany where he sailed on the good ship the Brandebnurg to Fells Point,, BALTIMORE in 1910..PSSST! Get this..His Passage was $14.00 BIG BUCKS in those days

Frank, thanks for youre your kind words. I think youre quite sharp too. Jagas post in Mala Polska is indeed outstanding. My grandfathers arrived in USA in early 1900s with much less than $14 in their pockets.

Good luck on your study of Bucovina:

My ancestry originated in:
. Durress & Jenina, Albania
. Karkhov, Kiev & Odessa, Ukraine
. Vienna, Austria & Hamburg, Germany prior to Lemberg/Lviv, Galicia
. Almaty, Kazakhstan

I mean no disrespect.. But I just had to laugh. With your ancestrial back ground, you would have been in BIG trouble in Hitlers Germany
trying to prove that you were of pure German Heritage.. So much for the Aryan Nation
