It takes me way to long to read just a couple of messages here in the forum. Besides, I am receiving some strange e-mail messages which seems to be virus-carriers (although my mail-system filters them from viruses). So, they are coming to me in unreadable format and with only partial messages.
I do have just a modem, but it was working fine - just yesterday it was just so slow! I wonder whether you also receive any strange messages etc.

Don't use Microsoft Outlook. It can be fooled into executing automatically dangerous attachments and infect your computer. No other known mail reader is liable to this kind of attack.
I would recommend Eudora, The Bat or Mozilla Thunderbird instead.
I personally don't use Windows at all and have never experienced any such problems since I switched.

Yes that's quite correct about Outlook being more prone to viruses. I don't use Outlook at home at all, I use Eudora. But at work we do use Microsoft Outlook. I have it set not to display the Preview Pane so that e-mails are not automatically opened. Anything with Hello, Hi, Text, and attachments I do not open at all because these contain viruses, I just delete without mercy. I also have the work Outlook set to display as text only, and scripting disabled in Eudora, and in both set not to allow attachments to open automatically. Unfortunately though using the Text Only option will disable any signature you are using - I do use the HTML display type in Eudora for this reason. This page http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.mydoom.a@mm.html gives information about the current major virus which is circulating with these headers amongst others. Don't open anything with these subject lines if you can avoid it. Jaga, you might also want to pop over to www.cnet.com and download Spybot just in case you have spyware on your puter because that could be slowing things down - and you do need a firewall if you haven't got one. Are you experiencing a slow response time with any other forum you read? This one is CGI coded and I find most similar forums are quite slow to navigate - I'm on 56K dialup. They're far quicker if you're on cable or broadband.

Jaga, call your ISP tech. service. The problem with deleting Spyware is this may also delete related wanted programs. Which antivirus program do you use? Do you scan every file with the latest antivirus definitions? Carl

andHi Jaga, sorry about the problems. I use OE6 but I also have Norton System Works, Antivirus and Firewall plus i run Spybot and Browser Hijack Blaster, I did have some weird messages come in through my e-mail but that is why they put the delete button on the keyboard. Check www.komando.com this lady has a website, knows computers and has a whole list of helps, tips and info for computer users. When I can, I catch her radio show on Saturdays.

I used to have Eudora but I did not like it very much. I guess, it did not have an option to put messages in different subdirectories. As for a speed of the internet, I worry that out internet provider is just forcing us to buy DCL instead of the modem which we use right now.

Carl, Ajarmoniuk, Bob,
thank you so much for your concerns. I was so upset with teh slow connection that I just gave up and had a break from the internet until the end of the day! It is doing a bit better now. I am not sure what to do. I think, there is a bug on my machine right now or maube my harddrive is too defragmented and this also affect how slow my computer is. Also during a day everybody is using computer at work, which makes things much slower here.

Jaga,
I use Netscape 7.1 and have not had any problems with it. Antivirus is part of Nortons System Works 2004.
It automaticaly deletes the virus. To date I have had 6 attempts at infection. So far it is not a problem.
