Hey, I have sorta medium brown long hair and I was thinking about getting highlights before school starts. I want to get like a lighter brown or some dark blonde, but I want to get them done professionally so they don't totally kill my hair. Is it true that if you highlight your hair by yourself then you'll have more damage than if you get it done professionally? Because my hair is thick and dry, but I really want some more color in it. So I want to get it done professionally. Can someone give me some tips on what color to highlight my hair?? And if it will damage my hair or not?

Hi Jena,
Highlights will be great in your long brown hair.
Having highlights put in professioanlly is always safer. - Any color treatment will change your hair texture, but highlights done well will do the least damage with the most benefit in terms of color.
Its always best to condition your hair regularly after your highlight.

I like to do two or three colors. Ask your stylist about colors. One shade about two shade lighter than your natural and one shade in light blonde will be really pretty. Highlights here are going back to fine strands rather than the big chunks but get what ever is hot in your area.

Oh and one more thing. What if my hair is naturally curly and I straighten it sometimes with an straightener? And my ends are split and dry? Will that damage my hair totally if i color it or should I just cut off the dead ends and then color it?

hi jena what about ash blonde or platinium blonde remember that when getting your hair highlighted proffessionally there are two methods cap highlights and foil highlights . foil for longer hair cap for shorter hair . I would say yes it is true that if you do it wrong at home it could cause more damage .
