Hello!

I currently have highlights in 2 colors on my naturally medium blonde hair. The highlights are light blonde and a light reddish color. I am tired of the expense and upkeep involved in maintaining the highlights and would like to grow them out and/or color over them if necessary. I don't want to have my hairdresser do it if at all possible, because I do not want to have to continue to have her apply the color. I basically want to get away from coloring my hair at all, at least with a permanent color. I can handle one of the semi-permanent ones, but again, I don't want to have it professionally done because it is just too darn expensive and time consuming.

Any advice on good at-home products I can use to cover the highlights, or any way to grow out the highlights gracefully? I don't think it's possible to grow out the highlights without putting something over them--I think it would look weird. But I'm not a pro, so I don't know!

Thanks in advance!

I also would like to get some advice on the above topic, because I got my hair "carmelized" a few months back and I can't afford to keep getting it redone, and my hair has started to grow and the roots are showing...and honestly, I do not want to continue coloring my hair because I feel like it's made my hair alot dryer than it used to be!

I feel your pain, renaeb21!! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

My daughter who worked at an exclusive salon for years has a few sugggestions for you that might help. You could try Aveda Clove shampoo and conditioner. It is a slight color enhancing product that maintains browns. To eliminate red tones, try Aveda Black Malva shampoo and conditioner. It is mainly for brunettes. The best choice might be to buy Aveda Personal Blend shampoo and conditioner. You have to go to the salon and you tell them what color you want to achieve, and the stylist will mix a shampoo base with a variety of colors of semi-permanent dyes. The same is done with the conditioner. Wash your hair with it once or twice a week and concentrate on your problem areas. The conditioner stays on for a few minutes. It deposits color. The longer you leave it on, the more intense the color. It washes out with another brand of shampoo after several washings. It is a little expensive, but you do it yourself and it is cheaper than going to the salon to get colored. It is an easy way to let your color outgrow without looking yukky. Hope this helps you two. If you have any questions, my daughter will be more than happy to try to answer them for you. Good luck! sincerely, moose
