I'd like to add some depth and style to my haircolor but I don't know where to start. I have an appointment scheduled w/my stylist in a week and a 1/2.

I've got dark brown hair w/naturually red highlights. I don't know that I want more red highlights. I've been thinking of adding caramel tones.

What suggestions do you have? What questions should I ask my stylist before we get coloring?

Hello Angle
Caramel highlights would be beautiful.
If you can, try lowlights one shade darker than your hair and also the caramel highlights.

Your hairdresser will be able to tell you whether or not you can get highlights without going red. Some dark hair will always pull red but there are ways to counteract it.

I've done darker brown lowlights on my medium brown hair before and since most folks usually add highlights, it's a quite different effect. Good friends new something was new but couldn't guess what... :-)

I also liked how it grew out versus having highlights. Very subtle and didn't need touch-ups.

If you hair is dark brown with red highlights right now, perhaps your hair stylist could add in carmel/light brown highlights and some light blonde for a mix of beautiful hair. I found a picture of what it might look like.

If you haven't got it. Fake it ! Too short ? Wear high heels ... but for your sake, practice walking in them first !
