I have recieved some good tips and advice from some of you, thanks very much....
Here is my current question,I am such a dummy when it comes to hair dye.
I currently have dark brown hair with some gray starting to creep in(very unwelcome, but it keeps coming). I was thinking of dying my hair a lighter shade of brown to cover the gray, then come back with blonde highlights. Will the blonde highlights work well in this situation, dying hair that is already dyed ? Thanks to anyone/everyone for the replies :music: :music: :music: :music: :music: :music:

If you're planning to lighten your hair I highly recommend going to a salon. Hair lightening can be a very tricky process. Also, newer hair tends to absorb color much better than older hair so often people end up with more color near the top of their head and the dye doesn't appear to have been distributed evenly. At the salon they can compensate for the difference. As for the other question, yes, hair can be highlighted on top of already colored hair. If you decide to go ahead with the blond highlights make sure to use a shampoo and conditioner formulated for color treated hair. My sister's hair turned an orange rusty color because she used normal hair products and the color faded out.
take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints and kill nothing but time. all you need is LOVE xxxx

Grey hair acts differently than other hair, so watch out what sort of processes you start stacking up.
There are products that just color grey, so why not just turn the grey hair blonde? If you take your hair lighter, you'll just have lighter brown hair with grey coming into it.
Whatever you do, consulting a professional often produces better results.

Yes, go to a salon! My mother has a lot of gray creeping in her hair as well. She did it herself for a while (a natural dark brown color; her natural hair color) and all the gray hairs that she had at the roots turned darker than her other hair.
She started going to the salon and her hairstylist actually said she mixed two colors. One: the nautral dark brown she wants for her gray hairs and the other: a darker brown for the rest of her hair. It's expensive, but worth it if you can't stand gray hairs.
Also, (i know you probably won't do this, but) if you do decided to bleach your hair yourself DON'T. I have a very dark brown hair color and bleached my hair myself a few years ago. One of the stupidest hair decisions i made! It turned out an ugly rusty orange color and a lighter orange/blonde color where my hair has natural reddish auburn highlights. Ugh! It looked horrible. Plus, it took me a long time for my hair to get over the dryness of the bleach. A lot of extra conditioning and frequent short hair cuts!

I was thinking of dying my hair a lighter shade of brown to cover the gray, then come back with blonde highlights. I have many clients that I tint and then highlight and it is a very nice look. The tint must be kept up regularly. I usually highlight them on every second of third tint appointment. :music: I do suggest that you go to a professional to have this done. It is a tricky process to achieve a pretty color but well worth the effort.
