Cathie,

DO NOT HENNA YOUR HAIR!

Henna can react really badly when put over other dyes.

Was your hair lightened then colored? Or was just a color deposit made? What color were you trying for that you wound up pink?

I have had some absolutely dreadful professional color jobs done on my hair, and sometimes you do have to let the hair recover before you can properly correct it.

Yikes eek Cathie, this is a disaster!
I would suggest using only semi-permanent color on your hair.
You didn't give a history of what has been on your hair but any previous tinting or lightening has caused your hair to be overly porous. What product was used to remove the hair color? Most likely that was very harsh too.
Deep condition your hair and use only semi-permanent hair color (I'm thinking a good quality color - like Redken Shades EQ) Choose a lighter shade rather than a darker shade. Your hair could still grab dark.
The best thing you can do is to go to an experienced hairdresser who is recommended by people with "good" hair. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Have the color corrected there.

Cathie,

My housemate had some good advice, as she regularly does extreme hair color. Actually, she said if she could do scalp transplants, she'd take the bad dye job of yours as that is pretty much what she purposely does to her hair.

Anyway, she suggested a vegetable-dye-based hair color as a way of getting your hair closer to the natural color. This falls into the same category as semi-permanent coloring that was suggested above.

ok i hope you get this befor you do anything, im in a trade highschool and im in cosmetology and i have see this, the girl had jet balck hair(died) and she wanted her original hair color back and she had some regorth showing "roots" (first of all i sugest you go to a salon) first they will match your regroth to a color in a color book, then they will bleach all your hair to strip all the pink color out when that is over with they will redie it to your natural color. or you can wate till all your hair grows out (hair growns 1/2 inch a month)
