Have you discovered a great, inexpensive place to visit?
I have found that most all destinations can be visited and enjoyed on a small budget with good planning and research. Yep, even the Disney properties and Hawaii!

I love the upper part of the Florida Keys. It caters to fishermen, so lots of cozy little cottages, they have grills and fridges so you can eat cheaply at home, and beautiful Everglades and oceans all around you for free enjoyment!

I like the Smoky Mountains, Gaitlinburg. My youngest son and I went there last spring break. We stayed at a Best Western that included free breakfast, evening snacks and drinks, and had an indoor pool and great view. Between this and just visiting the park we didn't have to spend alot.

The Smoky Mountains are beautiful. We camped there about a dozen years ago. It's so true that finding a location and facility that meets your needs will help keep a trip within a reasonable budget. My favorite destination isn't too much of a budget place, but it can be pretty affordable if you do what I do, go in the off season! We go to Grand Cayman every year in Sept. It is a wonderful place, and most the places you'd want to stay in are condos, so you have a full kitchen with EVERYTHING in it, you just supply your food from the grocery store! (This is what we do and end up with everyone wanting us to BBQ up some fish or meat for them.) Airfare is also much more affordable if you go in August or Sept as the airlines really want to lure travelers onto the flights.
Our other favorite place is New Orleans, where you can stay in a hotel in the French Quarter for $70.00 per night, and have a pretty decent room. Most of the places at this rate are old homes that date back to the Civil War or a little earlier and are really a nice sight to behold. (Again, this depends on the time of year...you won't get this rate at Mardi Gras or New Year's.)

I've always wanted to go to New Orleans - I only went through at age 6 or something and I wrote in my diary that I was shocked at the naked ladies I saw in the doors I'd like to see it as an adult, with all of its history and culture.

There's actually a good Youth Hostel in New Orleans. This really keeps the cost down.

My favorite place to vacation is Niagara Falls, Canada. I love the exchange rate. I took three 12 yr old girls with me last August and we had a ball. Lots to do within walking distance and Marineland close by. We took a day-trip to African Lion Safari and had the best time ever. You can take a shuttle ride thru the compounds and the baboons are a riot. Since I live in central NY, its only a 3 hr. ride. I hear its a little more difficult to cross the border now, so you need to be prepared with ID's. Its a little expensive to eat there, but the 50%+ exchange rate makes it all alot easier to swallow...

I live in the midsouth......southwest Tennessee. I am lucky in that because we are two hours from Shiloh Battlefield (for the history buffs); about 3 hours from Nashville, TN (country music and shopping); 5 hours from St. Louis, MO, (The Hill, The Arch and Cahokia, IL). We are only 2 - 2.5 hours from Hot Springs, AR (racing, food, spas and diamond hunting) and, of course, only 45 minutes from Memphis, TN (Graceland, art, BBQ) and Tunica, MS (new casinos)!!!! With all of this so nearby, we simply check our funds, decide how long we want to drive and WHOM gets to choose the subject!!!
