Hi I am the new Today in History Editor. I just posted a birthday tribute to Dorothy Dandridge. She helped change Hollywood. Who is your favorite actress and how did she change Hollywood?

I was never a fan; however, I do know that Barbara Stanwyck earned more money than the President (back in her day) or any other actor!

Bette Davis; now she was a STAR and she set a higher mark for which all all actors still strive....

If you want to know what God thinks of money, just look at the people he gave it to.

Bette Davis
Joan Crawford
Their ongoing fued made them hollywood legends.. not to mention how wonderfully they preformed

Marilyn Monroe- though not for her acting as much as for her image

Judy Garland
Her talent mixed with her battles of depression, drug and alcohol abuse and relationship problems made people less afraid to talk about their own struggles

I love the story about Bette Davis and Joan Crawford in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? Bette had to kick Joan and Joan refused to let her. They put in a dummy because Joan knew she would really kick her.

Do you mean Hollywood or the movies?

Clearly Lillian Gish, Kate Hepburn, Bette Davis changed the movies.

Joan Crawford also wore weights in the scene where Bette Davis dragged her.

Now, Kate and Bette---they would have been a pair!

Katherine Hepburn. She spurned the whole women can't wear pants thinking and wore them anyway. She had balls.

Barbara Streisand & Bette Midler. They proved you didn't have to conform to what society's conventions of "beauty" are to succeed in Hollywood. You just had to have talent and intelligence.

I think Lucille Balle helped change Hollywood. She was the first woman to be pregnant on air and for the networks to show it. I also think her humor and style was pretty progressive for television. I am also biased because I love her!

Oh I loved Lucille Ball. I remember reading Times 50 most beautiful women of Hollywood; and she was like #3. I had never thought of her as beautiful before that, because I always thought of her as funny! But in that picture she was gorgeous! I wondered how i could have ever missed it 9of course the black teeth and bulging cheeks full of chocolate might have had something to do with it!) <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
