With more and more attention on sales tax on the web, do people who sell things on the web collect sales tax? I sell origami and it was always to out of state people, but I did finally sell a batch to an in-state company this past year. So now I have to handle the tax on them ...

Some states require paying a tax or fee for sales online and others do not. I haven't bothered with that yet because I have been selling my own items rather like a yard sale online. When I really get into purchasing with intent to sell online, I will owe my state sales tax on the purchases.

You might be able to find info by searching for your state's tax commission if you are in the U.S.

If I sell online, do I have to collect sales tax from everyone or just to my own state?
Who would I check with? This will be a business venture and not just stuff - like ebay.

You need to contact the department that collects sales taxes in your state. You may be able to locate them online as well.

I can locate info right on the net for my state by looking up Mississippi State Tax Commission. I think the title of the department varies by state though.

yeah you sell the tax for your county.

such as some new york places their tax is 8.625% but the county i live in is 8.75% so i would charge 8.75% tax.
