I do agree that a proper fit IS the key. I have never met a woman who complained about her bra( to me) that did not turn out( upon questioning) to be a woman who had either never been fitted or had not been fitted for perhaps decades.
Finding a proper measurer is another thing entirely. But Please do not EVER think that wearing a bra that is too small makes you look smaller...no-no, it only makes you look like you cannot dress yourself and lumpy to boot; not to mention what it is doing to your back and shoulders.

I have had wonderful success at getting measured at Penny's and Dillard's. They have gone out of their way to find what they have, and when they couldn't supply anything they recommended places with my size. It has made all the difference in the world. The wrong size isn't worth the discomfort, no matter what the reason!

I personally can't stand bras period!
I'm, let's just say, LARGE and every chance I get, I don't wear the bloody things!
Probably by the time that I'm old, I'll be picking my chest off the floor to walk, but I just don't like em'.

I read recently that the reason our breasts sag so much when we are older is because we do wear bras all the time. Our chest muscles are underdeveloped from not having to support them. I'm not sure if I believe it but it sounds good.

Well, my girls are doing fine and I intend to keep it that way. I spent over 5 hours at the Bali/Hanes outlet trying on every bra the young woman brought my way. They ranged in size from a 40D to a 44DDD --what is up with that? On I know what "they"(remember them?) say that it depends on where the bra was in the cutting stack...how about it depends on quality control??
BTW: I bought 2 bras and took the home to actually "wear;" and you KNOW I took them back. Then to add insult to sweaty misery I could not find my stupid receipt, almost had to assault the manager who wanted to do a full cavity body search on me and get DNA eventhough I had been in there the day before and the woman who had waited on me and the cashier were both standing there..argh!...now I have a $46 due bill in a place I would rather bomb than spend money...and I still need bras OR I could go back up in weight and wear my new 46DDs that are the bra that has been discontinued that I like that fit in the colors I want...chocolate I NEED chocolate or ???

ARGH! Bra's! Got my first bra in 3rd grade, I just woke up one morning and skipped the training bra size LOL. Was a C by 6th grade and a size 3. No longer a 3, but now a 40DD and I cannot stand underwire. I have been fitted, more than once, same result. My size is correct. The damm wire digs right into my armpits OUCH.
I saw the queen latifah bras at shopko, love the colors, hate the underwire.
I hate bras.
Like my boobs though LOL

LOL. The thing with bras and underwire. There are so many different kinds. If the underwire is digs into your armpits then it's the wrong style. Next time your checking out the bra section compare the length of underwires between different bras. You'll notice there is a big difference amongst the same size with the length of the underwire. I would think the ones you had were too short so they stuck you. For an underwire bra to fit you properly you'd need a style that had a longer one that didn't stop at your armpit but curved up higher than that point and slightly in.
I like underwires because they can give a better lift and shape without pushing the flesh to the underarm area. Their like jeans though. You have to keep trying different styles until you find the one that works for you. When you find the one that works you have buy 10 pairs just in case they continue it on you.

ok, yes the size can vary in the cuttin stack order etc etc...but industry standard is a half inch either direction not 4 inches...and if anything it should have been 40DDD and 44D versus what she brought you.
For those that dont know how & at the risk of sounding like a dork/bra advocate(hoping gloria steinham isnt going to put a hex on me) Im going to list the instructions for how to fit yourself.
Get your best fitting bra and a measuring tape. measure around your rib cage under the bust and pull it nice and snug. thats the band size. If it measures say 43" try a 44 inch band. Now measure around the fullest part of your bust. 1" difference is an A, 2" B, 3" C, 4" D, 5" DD(E), 6" DDD (F) and so on. I hope this helps anyone =]

Ugh...this reminds me I need to go buy more. It so much fun when my 5 yr old comes with me and insists on picking out the style. That'd be a good story to tell any future girlfriends

haha... This past christmas we had a display of all the red/black/white satin push up bras...the molded cup kind and a woman came in to pay her bill with her little boy. He saw the bras and instantly went over and started pointing and yelling BOOBS!! BOOBS BOOBS BOOBS! It was the funniest thing and so hard to keep from busting out laughing until the mortified mother and her son left the store.
