A few ladies in this forum want some advice on what's flattering on a plus-size woman.

I'm not even sure I like the name of this area "Large and Lovely". It just sounds negative to me. It's like my Mom when she'd go shopping, she'd find the first salesperson and ask "Where is the large ladies section?" Oh, i just hated it. Why do we have to be labeled as Large? Do any stores actually call it that? No. They call it Womens section. And I don't want to be in this category for much longer anyway.
I am interested in maybe what you think is a flattering look with today's styles for casual work dress and casual home dress. Do you think cargo pants and the cropped pants are flattering and would you wear the cute t's that are out, or do you think something not fitted is more appropriate?
What about the new sandals with the kitten heel or the flats. I'm thinking that flats are not so flattering.

[/qb] i suggest some sort of throw - nothing too tight that could possibly reveal your real shape. you want to look as if you are doing it on purpose, like you have nothing to hide, but you actually are.

[/qb] I love a little bit of heel in my shoes...but then I am so short I need them just to reach my high kitchen cabinets! And I have no problem with fitted at any size so long as it is fitted properly...my big pet peeve is TIGHT (as in the wrong size) as opposed to fitted. And that is something that women of every size are guilty of! When I wear fitted tops, I look for stuff with more of an empire waistline...since I carry so much of my weight in my post-baby belly, it creates a false waist, and skims my problem areas but still creates nice curves. Not baggy, but not showing off my pooch-tummy either!

thank you. it is so hard to find good fashins now days. and even if you do manage to find something that fits, it always looks like a wild array of flowers and loud colors.

I think Large and Lovely is a great name and not a bit negative. I am a large woman - some women are tiny and skinny - I'm large and plump - there you have it! I keep healthy but I'm really not hung up on body image any more. I did used to be - golly, the amount of money I've spent over the years trying to be slim! No, I am now how God intended me to be! :-) In England I used to shop at Evans (Used to be called Evans Outsize - now that's a negative name!) - here I go to JC Penny - great, comfortable clothes at a good price. I bought some khakis at Old Navy the other day - they were $15 more for the same size in the Plus Women's section than in the other women's section - what's that all about? I really don't like being ripped off because I'm larger than a size 14, that's for sure...

I find that Lane Bryant always has a great selection of clothing from the comfy and casual to the professional and formal..and I think fitted clothing is okay for a plus sized woman as long as it's not too incredibly tight..we still have curves to show off!! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I too am a plus sized girl and my problem is, I like to wear band t-shirts to be casual..but bands hardly ever sell their clothing in a size higher than an X-Large @ concerts. Hot Topic does have select T-Shirts that run higher in size, but usually it's none of the bands that I am interested in..so that's where my dilemma is..I know I can find some plus sized stuff on EBay, from people who have taken a t-shirt and an iron on and made a "bigger" shirt, but I'm looking for stuff more authentic..any suggestions?
It's not always rainbows and butterflies, it's compromise that moves us along...
