I tat by sliding my shuttle back and forward in the traditional manner which I was taught by Ruth Baker of the Ring of Tatters. Before that I lifted my shuttle round the thread which was very slow, now I go like greased lightning.

Needle tatting is of course different. How do other people hold their shuttles and thread?

I have tried to get to the online classes w/ no success, but I do the "Nose front, butt back" method of tatting. It took me at least 4 months to un-learn the incorrect techinque that I had used for going on 20 years,,,but I can tat a hellofalotfaster now! (no typo in the hellofalotfaster!) It just happened one night after the kids had gone to bed...wish I had been able to join ya'll tonight, but I must not be doing something right, because I don't seem to be able to get into the classroom. Maybe next week??? Keep tatting, anyway! Patti in AL NATA#338 Ball Park Mom, Girl Scout Leader (2 Troops) & a 17 yr old son to boot! No wonder I'm nuts!

I'm an in and outter too. I used to needle tat because that was how I learned. I was lucky enough to be taught shuttle tatting by a very patient lady by the name of Sadie in Nacadoches Tx at the very first Lace Day in the Pines. Every once in awhile I make it from Houston up there for the second saturday tatting meetings at Lone Star Charlies too!!! What's everyone working on this evening?

Knot all who tat are nuts!

I'm making a doily which can be worked ENTIRELY in one go - I drew a maze pattern on graph paper and I'm tatting the maze! I don't THINK anyone has done anything like that so it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Patti, what went wrong? You need to wait for the Java applet to load and then put your name in the top line and any info you want to appear to the others in the class in the bottom line, then click on Chat. Those pop ups are a hazard but just let them load and leave them till you're finished or they may crash your browser.

Don't close the browser window that you loaded the Java applet from or surf away from it because again that will crash your browser.

Please try again and let me know how you get on - you are welcome to post here or you can e-mail me privately.

The other problem I can think of is the time.

You have two solutions - try the page I designed for the purpose at www.tatting.netfirms.com/timezone.html and click on the London button - it'll tell you what time it is for me and if you're either Pacific or Eastern you will then be able to find out how far out you are by clicking on those buttons.

The other way is to go to Yahoo Groups - if your profile is enabled on Yahoo and you go to the SN TAtters Calendar my chat is entered there (with Debbie's permission) and you'll be able to tell what time it is from that.

Hope that helps!
