I'm sure I'm not alone out there or at least I hope not. Eighteen years ago I was married to who I thought would be the love of my life. A short time into this marriage he became very abusive physcially and emotionaly. I soon felt trapped because I knew that if I told my family my dad would kill him and besides everyone thought he was wonderful. He soon made me believe no one would believe me and that besides I was not pretty enough to have anyone else want me. I endured nine years of heartache before my Father in Heaven knew I was not strong enough to leave on my own so he took him from this life.
I have spent nine years alone and have recently met the man that I now know through fasting and prayer that I was meant to spend eternity with. The problem is I have already been sealed. I want to un do that sealing but I am not sure if it can be done. If you have had a similar experience or know the answer please help me.

Lisa,

Though I am not certain, are you refering to the LDS beliefs when you say, "sealed"?

Yes to clearify I mean the LDS belief of being sealed in the temple.

I would suggest that you start with your bishop, who could help you decide the best course of action. I don't know what the process is, but my guess is that it would start with the bishop anyway. You should be prepared to discuss your reasons, but know that you won't be judged. Many women find themselves a victim of abuse and since it's a legitimate reason for divorce within the church, I'm sure the bishop will be able to help you.
