Hi! My name is Cindy and I would love to find a weight loss buddy. I lost a lot of weight eating low carbs. I got to the point where I meated myself to death. I don't want to do that anymore. I mostly want to eat vegetables, fruit, nuts, grains, and very little meat. I know it's calories and portion control. I have exercise also. I would love to hear from anyone serious.

Hi, Cindy! Left you a post on the Christianity board but I would like to be one of your weight loss buddies. I have lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks using the modified Atkins diet. Last spring I tried and got fed up with just the meat with Atkins, so this time I'm doing what you suggested...adding fruits, nuts and grains. It must be something like the South Beach diet, although I haven't checked into that. I believe it is SO important to watch calories and portion size. I still have pizza, but half as much as before. It's amazing what Americans have come to expect for an individual portion. I want to lose at least another 50 pounds. Now about the exercise...

Cindy, I've emailed you but I will briefly say my opinion here, too. When you plateau, you just have to hang in there and work twice as hard at giving up the "bad" stuff. Drinking plenty of water keeps your stomach feeling full. I also use EAS low carb bars for a snack with my water. The biggest challenge is to stay with the smaller portions and reduce calories.

I do all of that. The doctor told me that my weight hasn't been this low in awhile so my body is actually comfortable so I just have to keep doing what I am doing and be patient. Which is the hard part

Be sure to drink lots of water and take your vitamins so that you body has the raw materials it needs to do its thing, including burning off fat! If there isn't enough water and vitamins in your system, those important processes can shut down.
Also if your body is really comfortable with the food you take in to maintain its normal tasks, it's time to increase the daily activity levels. Try walking a bit more each day, doing some more fun activities with your family and friends that involve getting up and out. Exercise is critical for good health!

Lisa, you are so right about water being so important for all the bodily functions. I know the importance of replenishing fluids but an added bonus is that it also makes you feel full.
In your posts, you stress staying active. Even if it is simply walking. Really big people have a hard time moving around, but even walking to the end of the block will eventually lead to 2 blocks. It builds strength and stamina and does get easier. I am a really big person who is trying all kinds of things to succeed. You have given so much valuable advice and it is amazing how supportive you are.
My husband and I have built up my walk to about a mile. It's been hard, breathtaking actually, but he says we'll get me back in shape. I got so lazy that it became hard to walk to the end of our sidewalk to get the mail.
I did get a giggle from one of your posts that said "you should eat food because you're hungry and want to put nutrients in you not because you're bored and the action of putting donuts in your mouth is entertaining." How true! Big people who are serious about weight loss need to find a new to have fun that does not include food, snacks or eating.
It is not just about losing weight but getting healthy and learning to eat correctly. You have such GREAT advice! Thank you! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Girls thanks for all of the advice. I try to do cardio everyday for at least 30 minutes. I have a driving phobia so I do a lot of walking. I drink my water and take a vitamin. I have PCOS. I have cysts on my ovaries and I produce to many male hormones. I totally agree it is not only about losing weight but it is about eating healthy. I have a friend who is not even 90 pounds. I swear she eats nothing healthy and a jar of mayo a week. She does not exercise and smokes. She is not healthy at all. I can work circles around her and she is l0 years younger than me. I am an emotional eater. The hurricane really made my emotions kick in. I controlled myself but I did want to pig out. I would love to hear from you girls again. I haven't been around because of the hurricane and all of the warnings we had.

Cindy, I am an emotional eater, too. I'm glad that you did not pig out even though you wanted to. That is really some GREAT willpower! What did you do instead?
