Ever since I had my daughter in July I have been eating normally because someone forgot to inform me that after giving birth you don't automatically lose the weight you put on and I just gave up on trying to lose the remaining weight. (Size 0 celebs that look like a size 0 three weeks after having their baby work like crazy with trainers.)

I have finally decided to go on a low carb diet for the second time and do some walking a few mornings each week. I went on a low carb diet right before Thanksgiving and for the first two weeks only lost 5 pounds. I was so strict and got disappointed that I didn't lose the 8-13 pounds that the South Beach Diet claimed you could lose in the first 2 weeks.

Monday (March 1) I am going to dinner with my family and I definitely want to enjoy that meal. The next day, March 2nd, I am going to start the diet that will bring me back to my prepregnancy weight. And for the first time in my life I am going to actually do walking in the morning.

The only walking I usually do is the walk to the train or to a specific store.. which sometimes can be a mile or two. But lately I have been working from home and not really going out during the day because of all the deadlines I have. It's so easy to keep in shape living in a big city without the need of a car if you go out every day to work. Have to run to clients on appointments at different parts of the city, etc.

Wish me luck. I think that living in a big city so much pressure is put on how we all look but I actually want to lose this weight for myself. For my health. Because right now I'm not feeling that great with the way I look and feel every day. And I'm actually getting sick of the comments from my mother about my weight.

Victoria - the 8 to 13 pounds offered in the first 2 weeks of a diet is really the 'maximum' and is what a very heavy person could lose. Since you don't have that much to lose it would be incredibly unhealthy to lose that much percentage of your body weight at once! Five pounds is quite reasonable and healthy for you, so you should be proud of losing that

We'll do all we can to support you! Really the keys are avoiding sugar foods, drinking lots of water, taking your vitamins and doing that exercise, even walking around. Those are the keys to ANY diet, not just a low carb one, and are things I think we all can agree are good for you I definitely know MANY people who have lost weight and kept it off healthily on a low carb diet. Low carb isn't about bacon and fat. It's about avoiding sugar, avoiding white bread, taking vitamins, drinking water, and eating healthy fresh vegetables, fish, chicken etc.

* DIET UPDATE *

So with all the stress with that scare with my grandmother and then having so many deadlines at once I wasn't able to start my diet. Not to mention ordering take out while I was redoing one of the rooms in the house.

Still the same weight. Will be starting on Monday.
Did manage to walk about 5 miles, twice (On the 2nd and on the 3rd) and I was so sore after. Think I'll start with 3 miles 4-5 days a week so I don't ache again next time.

Thanks for all of your support!

Definitely let us know how you do! The key to exercise is to go slowly and steadily. It's good to have high aims but if you burn yourself out and stop you sort of defeat the whole thing Set reasonable goals for yourself and then keep with it. If you can't do 1/2 hour, at least do 15 minutes. Always have a backup plan of something to do.

Low carb isn't about perfect dieting. It's about removing sugar from your diet. So even if you can make small steps in that direction, that's better than nothing!
