I used to follow the Mcdougall Plan for 13 years but it turned me into a carbohydrate addict.Although I don't need to lose any weight,I want to get my diet more balanced. Now I'm trying to incorporate more protein into my diet.I'm starting to use a whey/soy protein isolate powder.Has anyone else read Fat Flush by Ann Louise Gittleman,The Naturopathic Diet by Penny Kendall Reed, and Fat Wars by Brad King? All are based on a 40-30-30 eating plan.Would such a plan be good for pregnancy?

I was a vegan about 10 years ago but after I got married I got back into eating all types of protein. One year I experimented with a body builder type diet to lose 10 pounds that I had gained from being stressed and not having time to workout. It was similar to the zone or body for life but very low fat. At first it was tough but I've found that I stay leaner on that type of diet so I try to stick to that. I haven't kept close track of my food in a long time but it's probably very close to 40-30-30 because I monitor my carb intake quite a bit and I eat a lot of protein and healthy fats like avocados, olive oil, flaxseed oil, almonds, walnuts, fish. I highly recommend this type of diet to anyone wanting low carb yet balanced and especially for someone who is pregnant. Poor protein intake during pregnancy increases the risk of having a low birth weight infant and, a recent study suggests, negative effects on fetal brain development. In addition to this a higher protein intake will help you maintain your muscle mass if you are working out which is very difficult to do because your body is trying to store as much fat as possible for the baby and breastfeeding. Your body composition: muscle mass vs. fat mass will stay closer to what it is now if you eat a higher protein diet and moderate carbs at a 40-30-30. One thing you want to make sure to do is eat very high fiber so you don't have problems with constipation. Berries, cereal, all kinds of green veggies and whole grain breads are the best.

One thing I would not recommend while pregnant is the fat flush. This is way too low calorie and dangerous. Only do this if you are not pregnant and trying to detox from a bad week of eating. This is not a good long term plan. Are you pregnant or planning on it?

thank you Monica(Weight Loss Host)for your helpful info.I'm not pregnant but planning on becoming so .Do you think it is safe to consume a whey/soy/greens combination protein powder during pregnancy? It's 120 calories,20 grams of protein per serving.
