The attic has had a de-cluttering. This weekend my son and I hauled two pickup truck loads of stuff to the landfill. There were old mattresses and magazines (some dating from 1969 to a few years ago), empty cartons (the kind you save for awhile in case you need to ship an item back) that become fixtures, and a treadmill.

Whew! My husband will be shocked.

Hi, Angie! Good for you! This is a great time of year (and weather) to de-clutter. I guess that is like a good fall cleaning...oh-oh, that reminds me...gotta get busy! Thanks for the reminder! Your husband is sure to be shocked, and probably very pleased!

Hi Trish,

Yes, the attic is comfortable to work in at this time of year -not too hot and not too cold. There are still some things to do - I have two shelves with National Geographics & Smithsonian magazines to unload. A few more organizing bins would be good too for storing some craft items as well as open stacking bins for holiday decorations. I use hangers to hold my wreaths but couldn't get to them as the room was so cluttered. Do you have any experience with a gift wrapping center? How do you store stuff like that?

Now that the worst part of the attic is behind me I can start on the bedrooms. I'll work my way down so that everything will be neat and ready for Christmas. HA!!!

Congratulations on your progress, Angie! It sounds like you've put in a lot of hard work.

Give yourself a big pat on the back, and be sure to reward yourself (in whatever way you like) for your accomplishments.

One idea for storing wreaths and other holiday decorations is to hang a second closet bar in an extra closet, if you have one; use a few simple lengths of chain and some eye hooks to hang a second bar from the existing closet bar.

You can then string the wreaths on the hanging bar. (Hanging a second bar is also a good way of creating extra space for other hangable items like clothes and jackets.)

Thanks for sharing your accomplishments!

Well, the gift wrap center is in place - the boxes with the bows and ribbons are in the attic and the desk which was covered with junk is now cleared off. So, the wrapping center is now upstairs out of the way. I took a bunch of the gifts which I had purchased already and brought them upstairs. So, now this is a win-win situation - the corner of my bedroom is cleared a bit; the desk upstairs is cleared off; the gift wrap center is open for business.

Of course, now I have to clean some of the mess I made when I cleared off the desk. Perhaps if I get disgusted enough, I'll just throw it all away.
