I don't know about that. But I would think seriously about piercing your tounge, especially if you are sensitive to pain. I've heard that it's more painful, and takes forever to heal, and gets infected easily...I have a belly button ring...that wasn't bad...

If you're so scared, my best suggestion is that you don't do it. Why put yourself through something which scares you so much?

In regards to your pain question, will the pain be worse than what?

Tongues actually have better blood flow than pierced navels, however being in your mouth, they get a lot of stress and can be problematic if you don't maintain a very good cleaning and care routine. If you gargle and brush every single time you eat something, they tend to do very well.

I've had my tongue pierced for 3yrs. now. I didn't find it any more or any less painful as getting my navel, nose, etc. pierced. It all depends on what your level of pain is. What Stephanie Austin said about the length of healing though is incorrect. You can change your tongue ring after 2 weeks (part of that is because you have an extra long bar in your tongue to allow for swelling). I actually changed my in a week and a half because mine never swelled and healed perfectly. Anyways if you're that nervous about it being painful then I wouldn't recommend getting your tongue pierced.

Rae I have something for you to ponder about.
When I had my tongue pierced someone told me to take Midol and my tongue wouldn't swell. So I took one before I got it pierced, one awhile after I got pierced, and one the next day. My tongue never swelled or anything. I know a few other people (one was a guy) who have done this also and their tongues didn't swell. I'm just curious to hear your thoughts on it, because who knows it could just be a fluke.

Midol does not have any more or less of an effect on tongue swelling as taking any other OTC anti-inflammatory medication. When you take a Midol in this case, you also happen to be ingesting a bunch of ingredients that you don't really need.

How much people's tongues swell is often very individual depending on how their bodies react to the piercing process. I've heard of people sucking on ice cubes and reporting little to no swelling.

You're welcome fs06am03.

Yeah I kinda figured that midol had nothing to do with it. I forgot about the ice cubes, after I had my tongue pierced the piercer told me to get some ice cubes and that it would help with any bleeding and such. Since I had an hour drive back I just ate ice chips until I ran out of them. And like I said I didn't have any swelling. It was probably just my body's reaction like you said and the ice maybe.
Thank you for the discussion. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
