I'm not so sure that I like David's neck tattoo. It's a little to big for my taste.

It's Tattoo Number 9 For David Beckham !
London | May 22, 2004 3:10:05 PM IST

It seems David Beckham has a penchant for tattoos and his body has almost become a work of art.

According to The Sun, the Real Madrid footballer's latest tattoo is a winged cross etched over his neck. The four by six inch motif is the ninth to adorn his body.

Becks, 29, jetted his tattooist pal Louis Molloy to Madrid to get the job done. Louis said: "The design doesn't really signify anything. It's just one he really liked."

According to TV psychologist Dr Linda Papadopoulos the tattoo signifies that Becks has put marital problems behind him.

"The wings could well signal that he wants to move on and rise above it all," she said.

"The cross and wings are spiritual signs and all that can mean honesty. It may well be it is the start of a new chapter in his life," she added.

But an onlooker at his Real Madrid training ground said: "It's horrible - the worst yet. He looks like a yob."

Beckham already had the names of his sons Brooklyn and Romeo on his back, along with a huge guardian angel.

While his left arm has a Hindi tribute to wife Victoria, VII signifying the Number 7 shirt at Man United is on his right. Two Latin phrases and a second angel were later added on to his right shoulder.

 How Sweet !

I think I'm going to vomit.

I really don't think they are that good! The guy is covering his excellent body with bad art in my opinion. If only he had better work done.

bleh. maybe I'm just grumpy.

Ash,

I think the key phrase therer is "in (your) opinion." The thing to remember is the everyone gets what THEY want. It's not necessary for the rest of us to like it.

Art is so subjective. What is better art anyway? Given that these things last a lifetime, to me, it's most important that the tattoo wearer like and feel integrated with the art. I can't count the number of people who talk to me and show me some tattoo on themselves that they then say they don't like.

I get email, not all too often, from total strangers who feel the need to tell me I am ruining my life, mutilating my body or even that they feel like vomiting when they look at my body art. To me, it's just them showing their own insecurities and lack of manners to have to negatively attack another person in order to elevate their own self-worth.

I'd rather foster a space and attitude where body art is allowed and explored, and just skip the "that's good" and "that's bad" mentality. There's too much of that in the world already.

well... the subject was what do I think. That's what I think.

Good art is above all... original, and the rest depends on the style and purpose. I won't force that down anyones throat though.

Rae,
I grew up in West Texas and I know the mentality you are talking about. I think so many people are narrow-minded and ignorant. If they looked at it as art, they might feel differently. I look at tattoos and I am intrigued. I wonder what the tattoo means to them. There is no way anyone could figure mine out unless I told them. They would just see a picture.
