There is a girl at work and she is stunningly beautiful and she's my friend.
When folk say Beauty's only skin deep I think they refer to ugly people trying to discount the importance of good looks.
My friend typify's that expression. She is beautiful but her physical beauty is only skin deep.
She is beautiful to the core and I'm glad she smiles at me.

No, they refer to people who choose their mates based on looks and then wonder how they ended up with this person who doesn't understand them, and whom they don't understand either.
