Hi,

First post. I have never seen a anyone that's attractive(my defintion) with funny colored hair, multiple piercings, etc. I conclude that people do that to make themselves more unattractive than they already are because they can't/won't compete. It's akin to quitting when you know you can't win, say in a sport event.
These folk would do more for themselves if they washed.

Sam,

As the wonderful quote from Laurence J Peter goes
"Competence, like truth, beauty and contact lenses, is in the eye of the beholder."

There's also a saying in the tattoo community that goes "tattooed people don't care if you're not tattooed."

What, can't think of anything on your own?

I'll enter this topic, though am afraid the wrath of the hostess. Just kidding. Well, I never post here, to not provoke scandals and things like that ... Buuut, let me state my opinion just one time: I thiiiink, that people who are into piercing, dyeing hair (especially unnatural colours) and tatooing, either have nothing else better to do or they are sick. It does not add any beauty, all the contrary. Weeel, maybe an artisitc tatoo, beautifully done, in appropriate place, maybe it's OK, but the rest is just nonsence (not using bad words, I'm polite, you know).

So, Rae, as much respect as I may have towards you, you're on completely opposite side of the river in this question. "Body Art" as such does not exist for me. A natural tan (or paleness), natural shapes and colours are what I appreciate.

You know, I really wondered about the usefulness of this thread when it got started.

What is the point of going to a place that is established for people to discuss and share and appreciate body art, and then just trash it?

What I don't understand is why people think it's alright to just approach someone and tell them how frightfully unattractive they or their lifestyle choices are.

Here's a question for you: if body art is so unattractive, how come so much money is spent on dyeing the hair and putting fake tattoos and piercings on so many fashion models and actors all the time?

Hello Rae,

Your question is valid and easily answered. The country is fed whats cool by a few people in any given industry. Men never would be seen in public
in T-Shirts. Then after Clark Gable wore one in a movie they lept of the shelves. Along that same line most people don't know what they want. They need to be shown. Sad but true.

It's OK to approach someone and tell them they look goofy because it's merely reciprocating what the goofy looking person is doing. Let me be more clear. There is a guy at work that had multiple piercings, tattoos, weird hair...they whole bit.
He is expressing himself visually. His right. This is MY STATEMENT ABOUT WHO I AM. Accept me or not. Well I chose not and expressed myself verbally...."Man do you look goofy" My right to express myself and not accept him based on how HE wanted to present himself. Seems fair to me.

I dress like a schlump in my personal life and many times pay the price. If I go to the store looking like a slob I'm treated like a slob cause THAT'S the way people are. I never belived that til my wife told me to dress ours daughters nice for school because they will be better thought of if the look more conventionally presentable. I still didn't believe her till I started dressing better and found that I was treated better when I dressed better.

Is a toupee body art...You bet it is. Is a comb over body art...yeppers. Have you ever thought....Man why doesn't he just deal with baldness? Why does he have to hide who he truly is?

That's my feeling on the whole tattoo, piercing, weird hair scenario...Why hide who you really are....Just deal with it

Nowhere does it say APPRECIATIVE POSTS ONLY that I can find in the descriptor for this forum

Sam,

I would prefer this forum to be a friendly place to talk about body art. I'm sure you could find a board of folks who share your feelings where you could reiterate your opinion.

Hey Rae? I love your tattoos *grin*

eh, just want to add that I have seen many absolutely stunning men and women with misc. piercings and died hair. As an artist I have a trained eye for beauty, and I use models all the time. Many cultures use piercings and tattoos to enhance a persons natural beauty. No shame there.

And on another note, I seem to get asked out more the odder my hair is (yes I am married, no I do not take those people up on their offers) Right now I got bored and did wraps of my hair with reds and browns, and layered red embroidery floss in the strands so that my hair looks like it's striped with red (yes Rae I've got pics, just waiting for them to develope) and I have had about fifteen people approach me for dates. So, sorry that person doesn't like body art. not too worried about it, just wanted to add that I do love body art, fully in support of you here Rae *grin*

Rae, you're right about uselessness of this thread, that's why I'm out of here after this post. It's like a Mercedes owner sticks his head into BMW forum or viceversa, to touch nerves a bit. My posture is: I don't like bodyart at all, I think it's bad both for health and beaty. I'll never do it myself, nor will allow my children to. So, my opinion is completely negative. You may have other opinion, but it doesn't mean that it's right or wrong. Let us discuss other topics where this question is not envolved and I'm sure we'll get along fine.

Jessica, you said it yourself, you got bored ... people who have busy lifes don't have time, don't even think about such things. It's when you don't know what to do weird things come into your mind. But same as to Rae, I'm not touching your art, nor artistic views and competence for the sake of respect.

In the end, this thread is offensive by nature, stop it. Let us better discuss cars or games or how tough life is.

LMAO!!!!! oh man, okay rae this is the last post on this topic for me I just had to say, AINDT it was personal comments like that that got you in trouble the first time. I am a VERY busy person, especially now that convention time is on. I didn't mean that I personally was bored, I meant that I got bored with the same old hair everyday. It wasn't interesting at all. So I did something to make me happy.

Just to give you an idea aindt, I wake up at 4 am, do my various moderator duties to all the sites I host on... then I work for about 3 hours on whatever commissions I have going on (right now I have 27 of them) Then I get dressed and packed up to do my panels at the conventions (I am a guest speaker)then I go to the art show, because I am in training to take over as the art director. Then I go back home, work some more on the commissions, do more host duties, all the while taking care of the house and three kids by myself since my husband is a truck driver and is not home. i usually get to bed around midnight to 1 am. very little sleep but I am a happy camper.
Ohyeah, and I update all of my sites too. forgot about upload time. Most of the stuff I do is overlapping.. multitasking is a wonderful thing.

Anyway, just had to nip that thought of me having too much time on my hands out of your head. Sorry, got no time, just making myself happy, and looking durned good while I"m at it 8grin*
