What made you choose the place where you honeymooned?

I'm still waiting to go on mine. My husband and I have been married more than a year, but we are pretty broke...eventually we want to go to Italy, but Mexico would be just fine.

I went to swept away in Negril. It was very nice but there was a couple of things that were really unpleasant. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived. We sat in the lobby for 1 hour then gave up and hung out at the bar for another hour or two. We were sweating like pigs in our clothes and had no place to change into a bathing suite or shorts. We finally complained until they let us into our room which still wasn't cleaned. We just wanted a place to change and put our stuff.
The resort made it a point that no tipping was allowed but the employees hinted around about tips the entire time we were there. I had a complimentary massage and bought a full body herbal wrap and both times the spa attendants were practically putting their hand out for a tip. I didn't know what to do. We paid like $3200 for a 5 day stay all inclusive (tips too) The website and brochure were very specific about this. I didn't think tipping when the resort pre-charges you for this was necessary. Am I wrong? The staff was totally pushy about participating in activities like beach volleyball, kayak races, limbo contests, etc. I just wanted to relax and hang out (I was exhausted all the time unaware that I was 1 month pregnant). I felt so bothered by these people.
The drug issue you mentioned in your montego article was also rampant there. It started with our cab drive from montego. The guy pulled out a huge bag of weed and we declined. At the hotel we were asked by the bellhops if we wanted pot and we said no. They took that as we're into other drugs and offered us cocaine, shrooms, or x. I thought that was totally not cool. I guess this is how people really make their living there.
Other than that we had an amazing time. The food was amazing, the rooms were awesome, spa, gym were great!

I spent my honeymoon in Thailand. But at that time I did not do research about the romantic places in Thailand. So me and my husband just went to Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, and Pattaya. Had we done a research about the island first, we would have picked secluded island like Phi Phi Island instead of Pattaya. Because honestly Bali is a lot nicer than Pattaya. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I've had 2 honeymoons (and 2 marriages, obviously!). The first we spent 2 weeks in Ireland (in Novembber, but the weather was kind), travelling around the south and west coasts, staying in a different place every night, and doing touristy things like the medieval banquet at Bunratty. It was wonderful - the Irish people were really welcoming - the 2nd night we were at a hotel where they were holding a vintners' convention, and when they heard we were on our honeymoon, free wine appeared!
By the time of my second marriage I'd moved to live in Ireland (yeah, that first honeymoon really was memorable!) and spent my honeymoon working in a caf down the road from here. Funnily enough, I enjoyed it more than the first one - mainly 'cos I chose the right man this time.
I'd recommend self-catering in Ireland as a really romantic way to sepnd a honeymoon - get yourself a cottage with a turf fire, and snuggle up in front of it, listening to the rain and wind outside, with a bottle of Baileys or Jameson's. Sunshine holidays are great, but there's the restof your life to enjoy them - a honeymoon is about romance, and I think a bit of 'weather' is far more romantic than endless sun!

We went to St Augustine, Fl. It was wonderful. We stay at a bed and breakfast. We love history, so it was perfect for us. If you ever get to go, visit the site of the first mass. You will know it by the huge cross.

Brugge and Ghent, Belgium.
We had been married for 6 months at the time. My husband already lived in Germany and I had just settled in a few months before. We went there over the long Easter weekend to have our honeymoon.
