Hi Guys (and Gals), i new to this forum but have a question.

I been playing FFX, and have got quite far. I'm in the airship basically just trying to build up my characters and obtain ultimate weapons, before i fight Sin.

The problem is when i try to go anymhere i keep encountering strange aeons (after reading post's i now know they are DARK AEONS)

They keep defeating me! I've tried using first strike on 3 members of party, and even blasted them with Bahamut's overdrive, but that doesn't do much for me!

I've read that i should be using Yojimbo, who i've got, but he also keeps getting killed! I can't get him to do Zanamoto when i want.

Also i'm quite close with all the celestrial weapons, but don't actually have a full one yet! I also didn't open the chest after killing yunalesca, so i can't get tidus's weapon without killing Dark Bahamut first!

Any tips????

Thanks in advance

I suggest u start training/leveling up your characters in Omega Ruins, get Wakka's ultimate weapon by playing blitzball, then go to besaid and kick the [censored] out of Dark Valefor since he's easiest to defeat, then take on Dark Shiva, Ifrit and Ixion (pretty easy too) Only after being able to easily defeat the above Dark Aeons you should try to take on Dark Yojimbo, Anima, Bahamut (also real easy but u need to raise ur stats.) To have a real edge against these pesky critters you should go to the calm lands and fight in the monster arena against the area conquest and species conquest critters (you have to catch all monsters to unlock them all), they'll drop the spheres you need to increase your characters stats, you'll need 255 on each stat except luck (well i got em all on 255 just cuz it looks cool, but it takes waaay too long to do so. So i suggest you just raise it to around 130 else you won't even be able to hit the Dark Aeons. Hope this helps

That's cheating and no fun and pretty sad.
Overkilling is the only way to win battles

anyway, you stand little chance if you do not have Wakka's Yuna's or Lulu's celestial weapons.
(I say taht because Wakka has the most powerful attack in the game and YUna and Lulu have 1 MP cost and that is EXTREMELY useful)

anyway:
You need strength of about 255 and also agility of about 255 and accuracy of 200+ would help. (That's easily obtainable in the Battle Arena in Calm Lands). Others will say all the other stats matter, but technically you get KOd in one hit so defences are kinda a novelty and nice thing to have. (and it makes getting the strength spheres easier)

Charge your overdrive before the battle by using Victor. (It goes up 1/5 but with celestial weapons it goes up 3/5) then switch to comrade and head into battle!

Valefor:
In Besaid when you try to re-enter the village to get the Jechts Sphere for Auron you get to fight the easiet dark aeon.
Valefor can't hit above 9999, whereas you can.
Assuming you got your strength up to 255 with wakka (which is easy) then you can wipe the floor with just 1 (yes just ONE) perfect Attack Reels.

Shiva
On the way to Macalania temple your access is denied by Dark Shiva. So what do you do?
a good attack reels shoudl knock her cold in an instant.
HOWEVER, if you fail to do that then a good Blitz Ace will finish the job

Ifrit
In the dessert you get to talk to some al bhed dudes taht say they lost their blitz ball. Then you get to see the crater and with it DARK IFRIT
Easy stuff. A good Attack Reels and Blitz Ace to finish it off. And if not then pull out Yuna and Lulu and keep up those quick hits!

Ixion
thunder plains!!!!
Yay! try talk to some guy in the thunder plains and he runs off! (Aww, but all you wanted to was talk to him! )
So you chase him and then he lets out Dark Ixion.
Now I hope you got your overdrive mode to Comrade because this takes 4 Attack Reels to defeat. Use Entrust to give Wakka his attack reels
Once defeated you gotta do it all over again!
Good news is you can leave the thunder plains and re-charge your overdrives and fight Ixion the second time. Just do teh same thing again. Attack reels 4 times and victory. The only thing is you have to catch it first

Dark Bahamut
You know where he is. Where you fought Yunalesca. Anyway...every 5th turn you hit him he counters with IMPULSE which will turn you to stone. So I hope you got Ribbon.
This is a 30 minute fight if you only have 2 ribbons. All you need to do is continuously use Attack Reels. Chances are you wont get to use other attacks since youlll be busy using Entrust
Full life and Auto Life

Anima
Ok, you can't rely on your overdrives to beat her.
In Macalania cave you gotta go back to the place where you had to hit the thingy with wakkas ball. Do that again and Dark Anima comes up at the base of Mt Gagazet.
So teleport your way to the base of the hill and have your overdrive ready. And also, if you have Avenger Overdrive mode then use that (it charges when your allies are KOd, not sure by how much though). I say this because Anima doesn't damage you unless you have deathproof in your armour
Attack her with the three attack reels that you start with (entrust to wakka remember???) Then attack with Quick Hits (Lulu and Yuna since they have pretty much have unlimited MP with the 1MP cost)
Also watch out for that overdrive of Anima's. Chances are you'll see that a few times so if you want to avoid being hit by it summon an aeon to block it).

Dark Magus Sisters
Ok just head up to Mushroom rock road. You get caught by teh Magus Sisters and so you gotta RUN like the wind!
Go left onto the elevator and the chase starts. You have to keep running and eventually Cindy will be left behind. Then one of the others (I dont remember since I fought Sandy and Mindy at the same time)
All you have to do is Attack Reel them. Now if you were like me and took on both Sandy and Mindy then your attack Reels will hit randomly. And if you run out of overdrive then just quick hit. Not a hard fight.
Now when their overdrive is full they use Gravija which takes out 48.6% of your parties HP (well something .6%)
If you fight all three of them at the same time you get blasted by Delta Attack straight away and Auto Life is removed so its instant game over.

Dark Yojimbo
MY FAVOURITE DARK AEON!
why? Because you can fight him multiple times and get heaps of dark matter of him (after every overkill)
Make your way to the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth (where you got Yojimbo) and use the teleport at the start of the cavern.
Now go visit the save sphere...but wait! YOU CAN'T because Dark Yojimbo wants to fight you!
YOU MUST HAVE YOUR OVERDRIVE ON COMRADE TO BEAT HIM
So have Auron Rikku and Kimahri start the right with First Strike weapons.
Switch the first person out for Wakka and use Attack Reels. Then switch out the next to use Auto Life. then your last person to switch out for autolife.
Dark Yojimbo Attacks (He ambushes the first fight btw) and you bring whoever back with full life or autolife.
Then just use Attack reels two more times. Then by then he'll be hunching over cuz he is at low health. Then you start Quick Hittin him and missing if your accuracy is low (if you get frustrated with the misses then just use attack reels but its a waste since it only takes 3-4 99,999 hits to finish him off).
Once you beat him you still hear the music going so you go search for him.
Fight him 5 times in a row and there you go. You beat all the dark aeons and unlocked Penance which is accessable by the Air Ship.
Beating Dark Yojimbo 5 times is easy, just keep using hte same stratagey over and over again never letting his overdrive bar go full (otherwise he'll use Zanmato)
If you leave the cave before defeating him 5 times in a row then you have to start ALL over again. so the only way to truely beat him is to fight the 5 times without leaving the cave (Fun huh?).

you don't need the celestial weapons to win the game, though, do you?

Hooo.. ho ho ho... Yes you do. And 255 stats to fight all Dark Aeons as well (that means, to comlete the grid and above). But if with "to win the game" you meant just to reach the credits, after beating "Sin" (I am vague to avoid spoilers), no, you don't need the Celestial Weapons. So what most people do is to "finish" the game, watch the end, and then do the quests for the Celestial Weapons, the Arena, the Dark Aeons (if you own a PAL release). Your gameplay time will jump from around 60 hours to 200 (at least in my case).

About the whole "you need the celestial weapons to beat the game" stuff, that's really not true. The first time I beat FFX I only had Yuna's celestial weapon because I wanted the Magus Sisters, and I felt like beating the other summoner's Magus Sisters for hee-has.

Anyway, use Yuna, Tidus, and Lulu, put one MP cost ability one a weapon for Lulu because Yuna already has it, and beat the [censored] out of all the bad guys. I found the more you got into Sin, the easier the battles were. And the final battle was ridiculously easy. Just get all the aeons and your all set to battle Sin. If I can do it so can you.
