Wow, Monica thanks so much for the Wizard of Oz interpretation!! Major palm-hitting-my-forehead moment as I read it - it is so obvious once you start thinking of it this way. The 'golden path' indeed! I didn't know Baum was a Theosophist. I studied Theosopy for a couple of years, fairly seriously. This is fascinating.
