That's a tough question! It depends so much on what I am making. For discloths I prefer a textured stitch/pattern so I work up most in a pattern that combines sc's with dc's. For baby afghans, I prefer an afghan stitch type background out of a sport weight yarn that gives lots of drape, which I then cross stitch on. In thread crochet, I am partial to filet crochet--my favorite medium of all! I'm not a big fan of the open and airy look, so I tend not to do many patterns with tr and dtr stitches and I really, really do not like the looks of the pineapple stitch which I am sure puts me in the minority!
