July is National Hot Dog Month. But what wine do you serve with hot dogs? The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council suggests darker red wines for a spicier hot dog/sausage and dry white wines for milder dogs.

I drink wine with almost anything :rolling:
I don't drink beer, so finding appropriate wines for backyard barbecues is a challenge.

I see. I don't drink bear either, haven't even tasted it once. I'd go for fruit juices for the type of food you describe, but since you insist on wine, I guess it would have to be a very young one, which is almost like a grape juice. (Well, not exactly, but you get the point).

I have to agree that wine goes with everything. I don't know about many wines, so I usually pick the same for everything. It's been a long time since I've had dark red wines - it brings back memories of the cheap ones I used to have

You might want to try Pinot Noir. It's not heavy.

I find Spanish Riojas go great with BBQ and burgers, and for hot dogs I'd go with a light red like pinot noir. I used to eat tons of hot dogs but I'm weaning myself off them, the more I read about nitrites the less happy I am with them I just got this from a health website - "Barbecue cured meats such as hotdogs and sausages and you'll produce yet another class of cancer-causing compounds called nitrosamines. Nitrosamines form when cured meats containing nitrites are cooked at high temperatures. " I guess nothing is safe any more http://www.sunintegrativehealth.com/main_pages2/maindisplayarticle.asp?aid=119

No, nothing is safe  I'm just going to sit in the corner and waste away since I can't or drink my favorite things.
No, not really!
While not a Pinot Noir fan, I do agree that they are a good alternative if you don't want a heavy red.
