Prize:A decorative birdhouse that resembles a lighthouse. The trivia contest winner will email me his/her address and the prize will be shipped out via USPS within 14 days of the end of the contest. The postage will be paid by me, your illustrious host. Please don't post your address in the forum.
Rules:The first one to answer five trivia questions correctly will win the birdhouse. I will only accept
unedited replies for answers. This contest is open to anyone living in the US with the exception of RI, NY, and FL. Unfortunately, if you live in Rhode Island, New York, or Florida you are not eligible to win since I'd have to register the contest with that state.

Here is today's trivia question:
Where was the first circus in the United States hosted?
I just want to say THANK YOU! I have received my prize (the travelling Chutes & Ladders game) and already it has been put to good use!
Good luck everyone - the August trivia game is going to be fun!!
(I am trying so hard NOT to answer this one, Jeanne - LOL)
Kitty
The first
circus in the United States was in Newport in 1774.
I just saw this and went to find the answer and when I got back ... I see Kitty was here. I was wondering where she was. All the while I was thinking ... perhaps for once I can post the answer before her...
I couldn't resist but to answer<G>
Waaaaaaaahaahaaa............ I was GONNA answer, but decided I had better not.....
Oh well, you got me, CHRIS!! I shall have revenge upon thee! LOL
Kitty
My answer, however, is different from Chris' (and I checked it with the Circus World Museum site) - John Bill Ricketts presented the first circus in America in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on April 3, 1793.
Kitty
I'm going to take Chris's answer here. I got the answer (well, question) from a Rhode Island site. All the questions have something to do with New England
Here's the score:
Chris 1
BTW, Kitty, I'm glad you are enjoying the game I sent you Gotta work on getting more people to participate in this game...
Here is today's trivia question:
There is a cannery that imports and cans only dandelion greens. Where is it?
I know the answer but I'm going to give someone else the chance to answer ...
Hmmm..... No one answered that last question... Too hard? Here's a question for the weekend:
Where was the world's first nuclear powered submarine built?
Since no-one else has stepped up to the plate... I'm going to answer the Dandilion canning question.
Wilton, Maine
Oh heck ... the first nuclear submarine was built in Groton, Connecticut
Since I won the last round, I am opting out....but following along and enjoying the questions.
Also, I am playing the Early Childhood, Literary and Classic Rock forums' trivia....LOL, I am a glutton for punishment.
Kitty
OK - so lemme see.... The current score is:
Chris 3
And Kitty I understand your decision. That's very fair & generous of you. Any ideas of how I can get more players?
I sure would like some competition ....although I'd like to win the prize ... I feel guilty cuz noone else is playing.
I waited to answer hoping someone else would join in.
I see where you put the game on your main page...how much traffic have you had for that page?
I've yet to figure out how to drive people to the forums ... when I have a chance I am going to follow Danielle's suggestions for "Announcing" the newsletters and perhaps plug the forums there.
I figured, since I am such a trivia-crazed woman, that I would put an article featured on my topics listing the trivia games that are in-progress here at Bella. I think there are three or four going right now!
Hope it helps!

It's my twelveth most hit page on my site. I also mention the contest in my newsletter every week - there are 54 subscribers right now. I was hoping for a couple of new players this month. I mentioned the game to a list I'm on & I haven't seen anyone from there pop in.
I want to go through the newsletter list too - maybe that'll help out here...

Thanks Kitty! I appreciate it!
Where's the game? I'm not really that good at trivia but every once in a while I might surprise ya (and myself-LOL).
Rules are in Jeanne's first post ... I think the first to get 5 correct answers wins the prize ... I'm at 3 already but I'll give ya a chance to catch up a little.
Yippee ... some competition
BTW ... trivia isn't my thing either but I'm a transplanted New Englander so the game makes me think of home.
Here's the game! Sorry it took me so long today - I got sidelined by a couple of things. Hey, it's still Monday
Here's today's question:
Which New England state was the first to establish free public schools?
Vermont
LOL I didn't even know I remembered anything from High School
Chris I doubt I'll be much competition, but I'll try.
You'll do just fine ... see you've already answered one ... like I said ... I'm no trivia wiz either. The only reason I do well on this is because I don't have to answer immediately <G>

Nope! Vermont isn't it. Try again.
However, if you do have a source that says Vermont, could you give me the url? I've got a source with a different answer.
Ok well I thought it was Vermont and I checked Google last night and sure enough Winsor, Vermont came up.
I've checked this morning and so far I've found three different sites that all say something different. It's the kind of day I'm having
I'm going to go with Boston, MA because I've found two sites that say that.
That's what I have is Massachusetts - I will go check out that Windsor VT one though. Could be that both states are laying claim to that honor
So our new score is:
Cheryl 1
Chris 3
Here is today's question:
Where was the first telephone book published?
Remember all answers have something to do with New England
Conneticut, On February 21, 1870
Congratulations Patricia ...
Guess you are catching up quickly ... now the fun begins <G>
That's right! Connecticut had the first published phonebook.
The current score is now:
Cheryl 2
Chris 3
Here is today's New England Trivia question:
In which state was the first discount department store opened?
Oh Pooh ...
On the days that I work ... I can't get here fast enough .... now I'm going to fall behind.
I'm sorry Chris. I know how you feel. I'm amazed that I was able to get to these before anyone else.

I do try to post the questions at different times of the day knowing that some people can't get in here first thing in the morning...
Here is today's trivia question:
Which two New England states do not allow billboards?
Wow! Cheryl - looks like you are on a roll...
Here's the current score:
Cheryl - 4
Chris - 3
Look for the next question sometime tomorrow
I know you try to make it fair Jeanne ...
and Cheryl ... you go girl ...!
BUT Tomorrow <G> I'm not working !!!!! At least not outside of the house.
BTW ... had you ever been to Ann & Hope ... an experience of a life time LOL! I've been there countless # of times.
LOL Chris! Thanks.. You'll probably catch up tomorrow.
This is the first time I've been ahead in any trivia game. It's honestly not my forte.
Prime Time Kitty is lurking here.....LOL!
Hey Kitty ... I've been missing you!
<BEG> Sure Cheryl ...
what's that technique called Bait and hook?
or is it hustling ....LOL!
Here is today's question:
Which Cheers actor/actress has a birthday today?
Shelly Long is 53 today!
I was worried Kitty was lurking here somewhere
... she's the queen of trivia.
Chris honestly trivia is
NOT my forte. How I've managed to get in here and answer these questions before you is absolutely amazing, and it will probably never happen again. Ask Kitty, she's been moppin' the floor with me in Paula's game.
I only knew today's answer because I just read the local paper while I was eating lunch and it lists celebrity bdays.
Woo Hoo!!! Cheryl!!! You are the trivia winner for this month Just email me your address & I'll ship out your birdhouse
Oh sure, sure .... <BEG>
Cheryl ... no need to apoligize for winning. It's the luck of the draw and unfortunately I wound up not being her today to answer ... thats my failing ....my turn will come <G>
I'm glad you won! .... CONGRATULATIONS! and enjoy your prize ...
Wow! I've never won a trivia game before!! LOL My hubby doesn't believe I won. Jeanne I'll email you my addy. I'm happy!
Thanks Chris. This really was fun.
Cheryl - your package got into the mail this morning I figure you should have it be the end of the week...
WOOO HOOOO, congrats, my friend Cheryl. I am ALWAYS lurking (just check out how many "Prime Time Kitty"s are all over the main page!) LOL.
Great questions, great game EVERYONE!!!!! I have to keep from hitting "Reply" and I am spreading myself out among the other Bella trivia games. I just hope I don't bug everybody.....
TRIVIA is my LIFE!!! Naw, I just for some strange reason love trivia and have a photogenic memory for the subjects that I like!!!
Congrats again, Cheryl!!!! Go Chris.....keep trying. I will always be lurking and jumping in here and there...
(Ha, Ha, Ha......and Prime Time Kitty fades away....into the shadows of Trivialand....)

Jeanne the birdhouse arrived and it's beautiful! Thank you so much for such a nice prize!
Oh Good! I'm glad it made it! Did you notice that some of the peanuts had fallen inside the birdhouse? hehehe I saw them go in when I packed it up!
A new trivia contest will be starting up this week, so watch for that!
LOL Jeanne I sat for at least 30 minutes trying to get all the peanuts out of the lighthouse. I finally said "ah to heck with it, noone is gonna see those inside there with this sitting on my quilt rack". My dh laughed and said sooner or later I'll get them all out.
I'll watch for the game.
LOL!!!! Just work on those peanuts while you are watching TV or something. hehehe. I have a large pink ceramic piggy bank that we put all of our pennies into. It's a pain trying to get them all out so I have a good idea of what you are going through. I only saw about 6 peanuts go into the birdhouse, but suspected many more would find a new home during shipping!!
