Prize:

A very cute travel version of Chutes and Ladders. The trivia contest winner will email me his/her address and the prize will be shipped out via USPS within 14 days of the end of the contest. The postage will be paid by me, your illustrious host. Please don't post your address in the forum.

Rules:

The first one to answer ten trivia questions correctly will win the travel game. This contest is open to anyone living in the US with the exception of RI, NY, and FL. Unfortunately, if you live in Rhode Island, New York, or Florida you are not eligible to win since I'd have to register with the contest with that state. <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Also, please don't edit your posts - those answers will not be accepted.

Here's the first question:

I have 1930 as the date, but your's could be right. Anyway, you have the correct answer. Nestle bought the chocolate chip cookie recipe and the rights to "Tollhouse Cookies".

OK, so that's Kitty 1 and everyone else none <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I'll post the next question sometime tomorrow...

OK, OK, Trivia FREAK here: Would that be White Mountain in New Hampshire?? (My husband was born and raised very nearby.)

Kitty <img src="/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
You are VERY close. It IS in New Hampshire. The White Mountains is a mountain range in New Hampshire and this particular mountain is part of that range. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Burlington, Vermont..............YUM!
Kitty, that's right. Did you know that Ben & Jerry were originally going to make bagels? They found that the bagel equipment was too expensive, so they opted for ice cream instead. What's your favorite flavor? Mine is "Chubby Hubby" Gotta love chocolate, peanut butter, and pretzels all in the same container <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

LOL - I haven't heard of that one. Sounds yummy. I just love their names for their ice cream - Chunky Monkey (has bananas in it), Cherry Garcia, Makin' Whoopie Pie, The Full VerMonty - LOL. I think they had one called Bovinity Divinity - it had chocolate & white chocolate pieces in it shaped like cows. Now would they have had that much fun with bagels? I think not.

Here's their website: http://www.benjerry.com/
Here is today's trivia question:

In which state can you find a town named 'Hill'?

That's right, Chris! That town has a very small population. I remember driving past sign for Hill, New Hampshire - I thought it was a funny town name. An old boyfriend & I used to play a game where we'd try to think of town names in New Hampshire that the other hadn't heard of. I won one game with Hill. hehehe

Posted By: kssmul Re: New England Trivia Contest - 07/23/02 01:03 AM
Jeanne ..
too funny about the Town named "Hill" ... I thought NE had some strange names for towns but I think NC has NE beat. We have "Bat Cave", "Mtn Home", "Zirconia", "Saphire", "Travelers Rest, SC" and "Suit" to name a few. Counties, Cities and Towns are organized quite differently here as well.
There's one in Vermont (think it's in Vermont) called 'Hell Hollow' hehehe - talk about strange names. There's another one in New Hampshire - 'Gonic' rhymes with Tonic. All kinds of funny names here. Then there are the ones you can't pronounce - well the non-natives can't pronounce them... Worcestor, Leominster, Gloucestor...
Posted By: kssmul Re: New England Trivia Contest - 07/23/02 04:29 AM
I can pronounce them <G> ....

I am constantly being chided for my Boston accent here in the south but what is funny is when I say something and they completely misunderstand because of the accent. For example: I asked my class participants to press CTRL + END and what they understand me to say is CTRL + N ... of course that does something entirely different. Of course, I don't think I have an accent ... but rather, they do <G> It took me nearly a year to understand (and I sometimes still don't) what they are saying to me.

Kitty
Posted By: kssmul Re: New England Trivia Contest - 07/24/02 11:50 PM
Yep ... in the middle of the week, I'm usually not here from 7:00am - 10:00pm ... but the reason I knew about the Necco company is because my grandfather ALWAYS without fail had Necco wafers in his shirt pockets when we were kids. Sooooo it's kind of a "childhood" memory. Plus having lived in NE 49 years (really all my life) before moving south helps.

Ok.... I noticed I need to do a little catching up here...

Stephen King does live in Bangor, Maine. I did see a website somewhere that listed him as living in Portland, I think. That site is wrong. Both he and his wife, Tabitha, write novels.

According to legend, Ocean Born Mary is said to haunt a house in what New England town?

Kitty ... thanks for the offer to wait ... my schedule is so erratic so it wouldn't be fair to ask that ... I'll just have to try to catch you on the "weekends" ... Fri thru Monday. I'm on EST ... so I think I'm an hour ahead of you. It's 10:15pm and I'm just now getting on.
Posted By: Kate Ruth Re: New England Trivia Contest - 08/01/02 12:26 AM
Ocean Born Mary - lived in Londonderry, New Hampshire - the Ocean Born Mary House was actually one of her sons' house and it was in Henniker, NH, where she lived in her last years.

Kitty
Posted By: Kate Ruth Re: New England Trivia Contest - 08/01/02 12:30 AM
She is "said" to haunt the house in Henniker, NH, though the stories told and the furnishings in the house were mostly fabricated by a Louis Roy of Wisconsin. Roy bought the house around 1917, filled it with furniture and sold admission to the house - fabricating ghost stories to "enhance" his sales.

Kitty
Yep, Kitty you've got it! Henniker, NH is where the house is that Ocean Born Mary haunts. Believe it or not, she is actually one of my relatives. She married a James Wallace and Wallace was my grandmother's maiden name. Wonder if I'll ever get to haunt a house...

And, I think Vincent "Buddy" Cianci, Jr. is the Providence, RI - uh, colorful official Chris was asking about, right?

Kitty

P.S.: My full (maiden) name is Caterina Magdalena Laurenzi.........hee hee hee, my paisan!! (this IS my name, but I am jesting, okay?)
Posted By: kssmul Re: New England Trivia Contest - 08/04/02 12:20 AM
As for the campaign slogan ... my guess is George W. Bush but I'm guessing here.

Yes, Buddy is Providence's beloved mayor ... althought he's not running in the upcoming election, he would be elected if he did ... no question about it.

I've been to Boston's Italian section and of course Federal Hill, Providence but I didn't know Hartford had an Italian section ... hmmmm I'll have to ask my aunt about that one. I guess, since CT is not my favorite NE state whenever I needed to go into Hartford, I simply went to the Fleet building ... took care of business and shot on back home to RI without paying attention to anything surrounding me. <G>
OK. Here's a hint for today's trivia question:
