Hi all, Mavis said there are a lot of very friendly and knowledgeable folks on this board so here we are! I have 3 tiels of my own, who are Hurricane Charley rescues ,and I'm active in Florida West Coast Avian Society(www.fwcas.org), too. My friend, Lynda, rescued 40+ birds during Hurricane Charley in 2004 and I helped with rehoming and ended up adopting 4 of them. They were all skinny apprehensive birds when we got them and we didn't want to feed them sunflower seeds to fatten them up. I came up with a unique recipe for BIRDIEBREAD that is mostly organic and enthusiastically eaten by every bird we offer it to. Shortly after, we started giving it to Lynda's anorexic U2, Tyler and she started eating one every day. She is no longer anorexic. I also fostered two IRNs this year, at different times and now I help rehome the fids in our new rescue room. Then, I brought BIRDIEBREAD to club meetings, became a vendor at the local bird fair. Now BIRDIEBREAD has now morphed into an online business with customers in 15 states and 2 foreign countries! I am also a vendor a many of the bird shows and fairs in FL and will be expanding to GA and NJ this year also. (I have adult children that live there) Isn't it amazing where adopting 4 little tiels can lead?
Hi Gini - welcome to the forum.

Sometimes its fairly quiet here and sometimes its hard to keep up with the conversations. Hope you'll join in as much as possible.

If you have a place to store photos online, you can post them here so we can see your birds. smile I guess you have them all in your avatar, but other photos would be nice too!

Thanks, Mavis. Actually, I have three tiels at home and the fids in my Avatar are either customers or Focus group members. Here are some pictures of my FIDs:
Charley of the Hurricane (the roof fell on his cage)

Cha-Cha,my lutino dancing boy(he had bloody nares when rescued)

Ladybird, who keeps both the boys hopping(she was blown outside into the trees)
hi, gratz on your rescue work.

you have some really cool tiels there!

i guess you wouldnt wanna post the recipe now would u smile
Thanks for all your kind words, Mavis and Philip! Your tiels are good lookin' birdies, too! Is there a thread where everyone posts pictures of their FIDs? Mavis, do you remember you picked Charley for a puzzle and a postcard from last year? cool

Well, Philip, while the actual recipe of BIRDIEBREAD Cones & Muffins is trademarked, I'm happy to share some of the ingredients. Aside from the batter, I add organic orange juice from my trees or local grove (right now, I'm using Honeybell Tangelo or Ruby Red Grapefuit), organic eggs (no shells), sweet seed mash, wheatgerm, Omega 3 oil, flaxseed oil, calcium, Vitamin D, riboflavin, niacin.

In Veggie, there are chopped organic veggies, in Beanie, there are 20 different boiled beans (I mix), in Hot Pepper, there are 3 kinds of hot peppers. I'm testing adding Red Palm Oil to the batter with the Focus group this week. There is nothing in BIRDIEBREAD that others couldn't do BUT my product is not a mix, it is the actual Homemade cones and muffins. This is a convenience for parronts with just a few fids or who are working and don't have time to bake or don't want to bake! They want to offer their fids a healthy, mostly organic treat that's fun, too. I provide that service and product for the fids of Indulgent Parronts, lol. Since I'm now in 15 states and 2 countries, it's working out pretty well.

If you or anyone else would like a copy of the February BIRDIEBREAD newsletter, just PM me with your regular email cause the pdf is too large to upload here. In it, There's a Valentines Special for Red Hot Lovers and Studmuffins! End of shameless promotion, lol. grin
They are gorgeous birds Gini - thanks for letting us see them. Yes - I remember Charlie's picture for the puzzle & postcard. Its wonderful that you could take them in & give them a great home. smile

thanks for that!
Happy Valentines Day to all. I know its over but I just wanted to share this cute picture of my friend's Quakers, Sora and Quinn, sharing a Beanie muffin for Valentine's Day!

Here's a pic of my own little Red Hot Lover, Ladybird, enjoying a Hot Pepper cone!

If anyone is in SW FL, the Caged Bird Club of Charlotte County is having its Bird Fair at the Tentorium in Punta Gorda tomorrow from 9AM-4PM. There should be about 70 vendors there, including BIRDIEBREAD. Stop by my table and introduce yourself- It's fun meeting our virtual friends in person!
I wish I was close enough to go Gini. Hope you have a great day!
Well, Mavis, Since you weren't able to come to the show, I thought I would post some pictures of what it was like. It was a beautiful warm, sunny day as you can tell from some of the casual dress of the attendees. There were about 50-60 vendors and about 500 people that came through. I got lucky at the Raffle table and won some Zupreem, Lebeber and toys for my fids! And, of course, I sold a ton of BIRDIEBREAD !

My own Ladybird

Hi-I hope everyone had a Happy Passover or Happy Easter! Just a note to let you know that I am running an EBAY Auction on BIRDIEBREAD Cones & Muffins this week that you might want to check out. Also, if you are already a customer, I put 12 FIDS pics in the Auction gallery-yours might be there....Anybody recognize this cute birdie?

Hi all-I sent out the BIRDIEBREAD CHIRPS AND SQUAWKS APRIL/MAY Newsletter over the weekend with the May "Mix It Up" Special Coupon in it. If for some reason, you are on my list and did not receive your copy, please email or PM me and I'll send it right away. If you would like to receive the newsletter, PM your regular email because the pdf is too large to upload here.

I also have a short EBAY 3-Day BIRDIEBREAD AUCTION going because I'm baking for a show next weekend then I'm off to babysit my granddaughter while her folks go to Aruba for a week. I'm still new to this Grandma gig, I should have offered to go to Aruba with them and babysit there, lol. However, I'm glad to have the little one all to myself for a few days so I can spoil her....So if you want to order, email or call before Friday afternoon ,otherwise, I will be mailing your order when I get back and bake again about May 10. This is a pic of my foster fid trying BIRDIEBREAD for the 2nd time...

This is a pic of Ladybird the day before her surgery.
is it possible to get the bread sent over to australia?
I have had several people inquire about Australia. My DC atty son in law check on the import/customs restrictions and could not find anything that would DISALLOW it. However, an Australian friend has told me that baked goods can be a problem with customs. I'm going to send a small gift of BIRDIEBREAD to my friend and see how long it takes and if it makes it through customs. I'll let you know what happens! The alternative would be to come up with a dry mix and cones package but then, the convenience of getting them already made is moot.
yes please let me no wether or not they get through customs. also were abouts in australia is she from? becuse the melbourne customs is VERY strict with food regulations.
Hi all-Shrek and I did a community outreach project last week. We went to the Bahia Oaks Lodge for a Pet Fair they sponsored. Bahia Oaks is an upscale assisted living and senior residence where people are allowed to keep their pets. There were about 12 groups invited to attend from Guide Dogs/Service Dogs/K-9 , Pet Groomers, Specialty stores to Florida West Coast Avian Society/BIRDIEBREAD. We got lots of attention and I hope we recruited some new members, volunteers and prospective parronts. Shrek was very interested in all the big dogs and people were very interested in what FWCAS does. For his first public outing, Shrek turned out to be quite the social charmer. The complete article is in the June BIRDIEBREAD E-newsletter. If you would like a copy, just PM me your regular email because the pdf is too large to upload here! Also, there is a June Special on Veggie Cones & Muffins with the lowest prices this year and an opportunity for free shipping too!
It was a busy time earlier this summer, traveling north to NJ and DC to visit my grandbabies and traveling to a few shows here in FL.

Well, I finally got the July/August CHIRPS and SQUAWKS e-newsletter done with
cool 2 TROPICAL HEAT WAVE SPECIALS cool

If you are a customer or subscriber and have not received your copy, I changed ISP and have had some not go through so please let me know and I'll send it right away. If you would like a copy, just PM your regular email and I'll be happy to send you a copy. It is too large to upload here. Unfortunately, Philip, I will have to wait until November to try to send to Australia now. Same for Canada unless we get an early winter. Since BIRDIEBREAD Cones and Muffins are homemade by me, I am afraid of the transit time in the mail this time of year. In the states this is not a problem since I mail USPS Priority and it only takes 2-4 days to arrive. I am featuring Cockatiels in the FWCAS Rescue this time, so if you have anyone in FL, there are some really pretty birdies available for adoption!
Aww bummer! Do let me know though when you are able to get it to Australia.
Don't worry! You will be one of the first on my list when the time comes!
Thank's Ginich!
Well, the Tropical Fruitty muffins were a big hit this summer with everybirdy that tried them and I even extended them into September but now my trees are bare of organic mangos and papayas. So until next year......

I went to NJ in Sept to welcome my first grandson's arrival and take care of his 20 month old "big" sister. My other daughters and families came also and we celebrated bithdays, holidays and the baby's arrival and Bris.It was fun to have my 3 grandchildren (all under 2 yrs old) together and I look forward to many more happy ocassions like this!

Now I'm back and was a vendor at the Port Charlotte, FL show, sold out and won the Vendors Raffle-woohoo! Plus I won a new cage which I am going to use for Fiona so I can give the stacker cage back to FWCAS after I get Shrek a new cage.

In the meantime, in my guestroom is Chelsea, a beautiful Orange Wing Amazon! (one of my dreambirds but no can do because too many little fingers in my family now) She has been a pleasure to foster the last several weeks, she steps up, talks, is not too loud and loves BIRDIEBREAD! She will be adopted by friends of a friend of mine as soon as their home check is done this weekend. She already has a large cage waiting for her and I'll be able to keep in touch because the new parronts are neighbors of my friends. But I will miss her.....
