I have been so hungry for these! Looking around the internet I've come across many recipes with significant differences in the anise cookies I'm used to. But tomorrow I'm making a big batch -- a cousin sent me the recipe our great grandmother used to make! Happy Happy Happy!

I made a huge batch of these cookies today. In the glaze that goes on top, one teaspoon of anise flavoring is called for to the one cup of powdered sugar and two Tablespoons of hot water. Next time I will either do a scant teaspoon of the flavoring in the glaze or 1/2 teaspoon. It was just a little too much.

I have people trying to BUY these cookies from me! I let some people sample them last night and suddenly I was taking orders for many dozens of these. WOW!
