Thanks Debbie for your perspective on the effects of energy and astrology predictions.

Primarily the "naturalistic" and "agnostic" parts of my self-identified humanistic naturalistic atheistic agnostic tendencies predicts, er, I mean determines in a free will sort of way that I am not a follower of astrology.

A question that I have for those of you that believe in both astrology and free will is how do you think your lives would be different if you never looked at any astrological predictions related to yourself or others that are significant in your lives?

Back at the home front, Maria calls me a "true Leo"- I would much prefer to be called a true Les. If I knew what she actually meant by that, I wonder if I should be seeing a psychologist to determine if I had a diagnosable personality disorder or not!

If I did not check anything astrology related nothing would change in my life. It does not really influence me and what I do. The only thing I find that it confirms is the characteristics of the zodiac signs. Most people I know fit their zodiac signs. Mine is an exact description of me. As far as the predictions go, a lot of it does not happen, but it is fun to read once in a while.

The following quotes contain a certain word or a variation of that word that many agnostics and atheists believe is not only the source but also the perpetuation of religion. Perhaps I blanked out the words because I am ______________ about using the word _____________. NAA!

"When man seized the loadstone of science, the loadstar of ______ vanished in the clouds." - W.R.Alger

"________ sets the whole world in flames; philosophy quenches them." -Voltaire

"_________ is the religion of feeble minds." - Edmund Burke

"Men become ___________, not because they have too much imagination, but because they are not aware that they have any."- George Santayana

"A __________ is a premature explanation that overstays its time."- George Iles

“If you believed in Christianity or Islam it was called 'faith', but if you believed in astrology or friday the thirteenth it was __________! ― Jostein Gaarder

“The problem is that one man's _________ is another man's religion, and vice versa. Many Protestants today still see Catholicism as being rife with ___________, ... while atheists and agnostics would see bien-pensant Protestants as worshiping an equally absurd form of the supernatural." ― David Gibson

“There is _____________ in avoiding ___________” - Francis Bacon

"___________ brings the gods into even the smallest matters." -Titus Livy

"When the human race has once acquired a __________ nothing short of death is ever likely to remove it."- Mark Twain

" A belief which leaves no place for doubt is not a belief; it is a _____________."- José Bergamín

"History warns us that it is the customary fate of new truths to begin as heresies and to end as _________." - Thomas Henry Huxley

So, whether or not you believe that religion is a result of ___________, what is the main purpose of _____________ in our daily lives? Hint kind of:" ___________ is foolish, childish, primitive and irrational - but how much does it cost you to knock on wood?"
Judith Viorst

Is it just a coincidence that supernatural and _____________ both begin with super as there is no word stition?

Hey Burt, yesterday, here and there, perhaps M could have been for manic? I hope not!

Back to superstitions! Back to superstitions! Back to superstitions!
Can a reliance on trilogies be considered a superstition?
Can a reliance on trilogies be considered a superstition?
Can a reliance on trilogies be considered a superstition?

As mentioned previously, superstitions are irrational beliefs that an object, action, or circumstance not logically related to a course of events influences its outcome.

Given that agnostics, atheists and probably deists do not rely on the Original/Divine/Eternal Superstition (oops, that's another trilogy of the subliminal kind), that raised questions in my freethinking mind.

Yet first, here is my take on the function of superstitions. Coming from psychological theories, the performance of superstitious behaviors/rituals provides an outlet so that one may relieve tension/stress/anxiety as they attempt to gain control over certain aspects of their lives.

Thus, I wonder if, as a generalization, agnostics, atheists and deists perform day-to-day secular superstitious behavior at more, less or the same rate as "believers?"

Also, do you think that superstitious behavior transcends socio-economic, racial, cultural, gender, age and educational composition?

How is this for a superstition ?

Please Reply.

I went manic on 8/8/2013 Because:

Today in Strangeness:

The heinous Manson cult murders of Sharon Tate and friends on this date in 1969 were seen as the 'end of the 60's.' In 1945, the US dropped the "Fat Man" atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki, leading to Japan's surrender in World War II.

Hey Burt, in reverse order of your posts of yesterday at RT.

1. Is that "cool" picture representative of your superstition triloknees?

2. Or as you indicate by referring to the infamous historical events which occurred on 8/8, do your superstitions (or episodes) involve duets instead of trilogies, trilogies, trilogies? At any rate, hopefully 8/8 will have no future horrendous events.

3. Thanks for the link to the series of videos on bipolar disorder. Yesterday the link to "Spiritual Awakening vs. Bipolar Disorder" worked fine but I only got to watch the beginning of it-when I tried to get back in today none of the videos were working, so I will try later...

Based on what you said about the effects of eating the fresh fruit, are you on a special diet as part of your treatment plan for the bipolar diagnosis?

So, to all of you lurking on here at RT, what secular-based or theistic-based superstitions do you indulge in?
