Last year there was a fire on the little mountain behind my home. It came within about 15 feet of my patio and destroyed so much of the sage and other desert plants.

Thank goodness all people here came rushing over with garden hoses and kept the fire away from the buildings. The fire department arrived in full force and in amazingly quick time. The teams came from the other side of the mountain as other teams started on this side and within a few hours the fire was out.

Smaller teams remained on watch, alternating shifts, till the smoldering embers and hot spots were eliminated. Smoke seeped up from the ground here and there for days.

What was left was a large area of blackened brush, even the huge boulders and smaller rocks were black with soot. The smell of the burned area lasted for over a month or so.

What I found so amazing, after the fire, is that a sage bush, the Grandfather sage, that I had put prayer ties on, had remained untouched. The fire burned all around Grandfather Sage and several little sage bushes around it.

This spring I have seen tremendous regeneration of nature returning to the little mountain. It is a joy to see all the new growth and to recognize some of the plants that survived.

I so appreciate Nature more than ever.

Hi Phyllis,

You truly are a gracious lady indeed !

I'm very serene and peaceful just to know a being like you is so attuned with nature.

I live in the house that my Dad made his transition from.

Although my neighbors work hard to force nature into their liking -- I let the front garden and the flowers and the lawn take care of themselves.

I don't force, cut, fertilize, burn or pulverize to my liking.

I let be.

It's amazing how fragile yet robust plants and flowers are.

Phyllis.....what a story. I am so happy for you that the Grandfather sage survived! It was obviously meant to. I am sure you will see a resurgence of all the little animals that thrive on the mountain as well.

Nature is indeed a beautiful thing.

Burt, you truly are a blessing in my life. smile Such gorgeous flowers you share with me. Yes, it is truly amazing how fragile yet robust plants and flowers are. I also believe that those in your yard must sense how much you love and appreciate them, so they bloom with gratitude for you. Thank you so very much.

I have just submitted my resignation to BellaOnline with mixed emotions -- however, I have other callings that I must follow, both spiritual and in writing. I want to thank you for being such a great forum member, for all your visits to my forum, and especially for being such a dear and gentle friend.

Many blessings to you and Connie. Hugs and Love.

We have been on some wild and crazy journeys together in the forums and each one has created a cherished memory for me the Grand Canyon being my all time favorite.

I just submitted my resignation to BellaOnline. I will greatly miss all the fun here with you. Granpappy will still be around as long as you lend him your fantastic personality and support. smile

Phyllis....I am very sorry to see you go but you need to be happy with whatever you choose to do. I hope you will stay and post a little bit even if you don't write articles anymore. And they were all great articles. I enjoyed them, and I will miss them!

It just won't be the same without you but I understand that you have a lot going on. I wish you only the best, dear Sister.
