Deb, maybe zoloft is a better choice for me. I can think about that for when I feel up to making a change.

I took Paxil generic for years, then got side effects, so I tapered myself down and asked Dr. for something else. Now I take citalopram. It is much milder. I didn't have too much of a libido problem with Paxil.

My latest update on meds: i seem to have stabilized with the prozac (20 mg) and buspar (15 mg). I also have ativan and ambien PRN (as needed). I try to not take those unless i have warning signs going off. I can really tell if I haven't taken them. If i miss the morning meds, by the afternoon I am anxious, out of it, unmotivated and depressed. I still have no libido to speak of.

Hi everybody, I'm new here. I have been taking meds for the past three years on a steady basis. I took meds off and on about ten years ago.
I'm on Wellbutrin, Cymbalta, Abilify and Alprazolam as needed. Sounds like a lot but after three years we (my psychiatrist and I) have found the right mix.
Still, difficult life events keep happening, no matter how hard I try to keep things slow and easy. The meds have saved my life a bunch of times I'm sure. So I happily take them, knowing that I'm way better with them than without.
Nice to meet everyone here and hope we can share some meaningfull conversation and helpfull interaction.
Sorry about your libido Jilly. I had the same problem and went to the gyno to get my hormone levels checked, just in case there was anything I could do to help myself. I found out I was so low on progesterone that they could hardly read it, low on estrogen and normal on testosterone. I got what I needed medically to balance out the problem and have been doing OK since then, not stellar, but nice.

It took about 25yrs. but I now have a combination that keeps me on an even keel:
Morning:
800mg of Gapipentin Neurotin <sp> 50mg of Zoloft -- strange thing about this med is that the formula in 100mg is more effective than the 50mg dose, so I get the 100's and break them in half. Go figure. 30mg of Buspar.
Throughout the day:
Buspar 30mg. as needed.. sometimes up to 3 and 4 doses after the initial morning med.
Just before bed:
100mg of Serequl <sp>
Sometimes 30mg of Restoril. 1960's era of sleeping pill.
Can't mix the Serequel and the Restroil because they are both sedative.
No libido, but I like to stay sane and peacefully happy inside.
If I don't take my meds, I end up driving Connie crazy by reliving and reviving the past with fanciful coulda shoulda wouldas and if this then that would have been better.
I'm mentally ill.
Took a quarter of a century.. but hey, I'm here and doin' the best I can with what I got.
It's good to be alive.

Hi all, @Burt, I'm glad you found the right combo for you and that you are doing well !! @Rosie, I'm sorry you aren't feeling well yet. It does take time and patience for most people to find the right medication and dosage that works for them. Keep working with your prescribing doctor. What is effective for one person might not work for someone else. Ruby and Burt are good examples of working at it until they found the comfort zone.
