Elise, I wouldn't worry too much about it but do keep an eye on that area for awhile. I think if it is the start of something, keeping his water clean and fresh should take care of it. A bit extra salt wouldn't hurt either.

HI Boo. I had a red boy with a black band on the tip of his tail fin. it was very beautiful! Something like you are describing is probably just a color marking. It won't hurt to watch it anyway, as Emg said...but don't treat what isn't broken! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The Professor has always had dark edgings on his fins. I too wondered if it was the start of something when I bought him, but it wasn't. It's just how he is.
