My formal meditation place is under the eaves in the attic. There is a small roof window above me. The attic is carpeted and used as a guest room occasionally. But basically it is my personal space. I upturned and covered a carton with a cloth for my altar, and I sit on a cushion. ...

I'd love to see a photo of this, if that would be okay.

Susan, first of all I must say my mind and whole self is feeling much peace and comfort with the mediation every morning. It makes me feel as if we are all together in spirit. This is something that can only grow to reach out to others around the world.
Your sacred meditation place sounds very serene and lovely. I do not have an attic (I love attics), so my sacred place is on my patio which is quite private and serene for me. I can be close to the little mountain out there and know the Hawks are soaring above as I mediate. It brings me much peace, for it is a very spiritual place, the mountain and all the little critters, rocks and Hawks.
My spirit soars when I am out there.

Phyllis, that is lovely.
I don't have a sacred space. I have always wanted one but never quite figured out where and how to do it.

Jilly, I think it would be a place where you just feel totally comfortable and secure in your privacy and serenity. You will find it, I am sure.
One thing we all have is that sacred place within us.

This is my meditation nook in the attic - the stairs coming up are on the left, notice the handrail.

Oh, Susan. That looks so peaceful. It must be imbued with your own beauty and serenity. I can feel the calmness there.

Phyllis, thank you. I do find it peaceful. It reminds me of the scene from the movie Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase up in the attic, when he was reflecting on his childhood via the scenes flashing by in the old movie reel. When I was a youngster growing up on a farm our family raised Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. They had their own dog house and I loved to crawl in there and sit with them a spell. Meditating for me is the same kind of feeling, going within the house of my body and settin' a spell. In the photo below the dog house is the structure next to the cabin at the far right behind the car. In the photo I am sitting to the right.

Susan that space looks so peaceful. Do you have anything on your altar, or is that just empty space? I love the little dog house. I am sure I would have moved into it as a child.

Jilly, from the earlier post:
"I upturned and covered a carton with a cloth for my altar, and I sit on a cushion. ..."
I keep a few objects under the altar and set them on top when I sit: pictures of saints, a quartz crystal, a mala. I keep my meditation journal underneath, also.
About living on the farm and the dog house, I feel lucky to have had nature to roam in growing up with my brother, mostly, and the dogs for companionship. My sister was several years younger, but my brother and I just a year a part and almost like twins.
