Have you ever woken in the morning, made your coffee, and climbed in the shower only to realize that you were still dreaming, even though it felt like you were awake while performing your morning routine? You may have been having an Out of Body experience, or OBE.

Great article about astral dreaming.

I frequently have dreams where I fly -- for example -- over Paris and the Eiffel Tower, the Seine, Notre Dame and then into the night sky and find it exhilirating.

Once in a while, I wake up from a dream, with a literal thump -- is this a return from an OBE do you suppose?

That is funny to me, for it makes me think of myself waking up like that. The "thump" is when your astral body snaps back into your physical body. I have had this happen and it is a bit of a shock!

This used to happen to me too - the flying one was constant for about two years, then it stopped.

I wonder why it stopped? I used to really enjoy those dreams - I felt so free!

Mine stopped, too, Onealone. I think it could come back if I chose to focus on it. Astral travel can be quite dangerous if one is not careful to protect themselves spiritually and emotionally.

When I awoke with a "thump", it was because something external (like a car horn honking outside, or my phone rang, or my alarm went off) and WHAM! my astral body slammed back into my physical body. Weird feeling, for sure.

The flying was fun, though.

HA HA... Yes Anna! I have experienced that "thump" too LOL! It literally feels as if I've been dropped onto my bed sometimes he he he.

Onealone, I tend to astral travel (or OBE) more often when I set my intention to do so. It usually happens for me early in the morning - after a good night sleep, but not quite awake yet.

Good point Phyllis about the external noises disturbing the dreamer/traveler and ending the experience more abruptly than it would have concluded. It makes sense.

Yes Deanna -- exactly like being deposited back on the bed, and afterwards you're kind of disoriented for a minute or two.

I can't say that I've ever set an intention -- it just seems to happen -- but will attempt it to see what transpires.

I remember when I started astral traveling... I'd be aware when I first started, but I'd be so clumsy; I'd end up flying, but feet first and on my back LOL... Eventually it got easier
