Yes December is such a lovely month Susan. With the whole of Advent and all its traditions, as well as St. Nicholas and Weihnachten/Christmas, two completely separate and different celebrations, there is so much to enjoy in all of them. They certainly brighten up a dark month.
St. Nicholas at the beginning of December with the Saints attendants Zwarte Piet in Holland, and amongst others in the different regions of Germany Knecht Ruprecht, and of course not forgetting Krampus in Austria who is not really one of St. Nicks helpers more a free agent in mischief making, is such a fun time for childrenas well as for those who were once children!
While the Christmas celebration with Christkind (Christ Child) and Santa Claus is concentrated on family, friends and traditions, religious and secular, and is such a lovely time.
Having always been used to the hurly burly, panic and stress of the season this way doesnt seem as commercial, and somehow the whole month is seems more peaceful, contemplative, and atmospheric.
