Onealone.....yes, I feel that we all share a sort of kinship here, a deeper understanding of the little things in life, the little things that most people miss, but these are the things that can bring so much joy and meaning....and for free no less if only one would take the time to really look. Most people just can't grasp that concept, and with the chaos of everyday life the little things are often easy to miss. So much beauty is missed by so many people every day.
Great sensitivity is often painful, you are right. What joyous things we see and feel are often coupled with other things that are not pleasant, and these things can often take their toll on us. I am sure you all have experienced pain or anguish that leaves you exhausted. I guess it is the trade off, but yes onealone, I love being able to enjoy the little gifts in nature, even if other people think I am a little weird to be so focused on such minute things.
Anna.....I LOVE chickens. In the last few years I have really come to admire them more so than ever. I always respected them because of the wonderful gift of eggs they give us, but I started feeling more for them when I realized the often cruel conditions they live in on commercial egg farms. I have since switched to organic eggs from free range chickens, and I will gladly pay the extra price for better quality eggs that taste more like an egg should, and support the farms that really care for their hens. When I can I buy my eggs from local farms, where I can see the hens out and about getting exercise and living like chickens should.
A friend of mine needed a house sitter for a week this past summer. She has lots of animals and I gladly went to help her out while she and her family were on vacation. My favorites were her chickens. She feeds them a healthy diet including fruits, veggies, and greens, and these hens are just beautiful. I couldn't help picking one up now and then, petting its sleek feathers and admiring it for its beauty. The eggs were phenominal, the best I ever had in my life. I was able to bring some home with me too, but I don't live close enough to get more on a regular basis.
If I could have chickens of my own I would. I love them for pets and I would love my own fresh eggs every day.
