Firewater....makes me think of Popcorn Sutton. He brewed 180 proof. He was one of the last of the true stillers in Tennessee.

There was a show on PBS or History Channel about moonshinin' a few weeks back. It featured on old guy with the bluest of eyes and a full beard. He couldn't have weighed 100 pounds soaking wet, but boy did he know how to build and hide a good still.

His "whereabouts" might not be known smile

I'm not sure if my daughter would like twisted fringe, especially since the skirt will have matching, but shorter fringe. She's just ready for it to be wearable and somewhat adorned in April. The kid is a half-time college student, in the opticianry apprenticeship, AND working about 30 hours a week AND married! I have a feeling once it's fitted and sewn, her leather will be coming home with me in April for the beading.

So I have to clear out a bunch of projects between now and then. I think most of us would prefer to do all the work on our regalia, but she has done so much with so little time, I won't mind helping. I couldn't make her wedding dress, but I did get to do all of the beading after it was altered. That was so wonderful and she loved it.

Adding a "Mother's Touch" to something as special as leather regalia will also be a wonderful honor.

Thanks for finding those links way back in the forum! I'll need that info for one of the projects I need to get done before April.

Not a problem at all...

My past weekend was a District Scouting event that focused on the 'First Peoples' theme. Had representatives from the Piscataway Nation come for an evening presentation of indigenous tribal traditions & lifestyles; followed by a simple dance performance. They got the youth involved & enthused. Mark Tayac (tapped to be the next tribal chief) came with his son & nephew on short notice; yet provided the highlight of the weekend.

I was a cook-off judge for the '3-Sisters' competition. The Scout Patrol entry had to contain beans, corn & squash. The decision was challenging with entries varying from chili-like to one that tasted like a curry-base; Some had meat (venison, beef, & chicken).

They expended alot of energy & had fun with a village-style stick-ball game I brought in. 5-foot poles to toss about 2 tennis balls on a string (bolo fashion). Full body contact not allowed, like in lacrosse.

All this on a property under the departures/arivals at Dulles International Airport... There is a high-res (4Mb) picture drifting around the District e-mails of me with the Tayacs.

Would love for you to share the photo, or perhaps find a link to it. I have heard of the Piscataway Nation, but don't know that much about them, yet.

Sounds like this was a great event, even with the undoubtedly noisy location.

The Piscataway from Maryland are just like Virignia's Pamunkey & Mattaponi - not federally recognized. Powhatan and his daughter, Pocahontas, are Pamunkey & it's hard to belief that the USG doesn't recognize them.
