For Hard Bread: When I get the nice artisan breads from the food pantries, they are usually a day or two away from getting moldy, so i have learned to remove the from the plastic bags and let them get hard instead ( i don't have a freezer). If i want soft bread i heat them up in the mike for a minute and then eat, or use with the ideas in this thread.
