Positive thinking SIBA,

If you say to yourself, 'I can do... I am going to... I know...', instead of all the 'I can't, I am not going to, I don't know' you start thinking in a positive way.

Also live for the moment, it is this very moment that is important, so if you can feel confident in THIS moment, you can feel it all the time.

Just my pennies worth!

Hi Siba,

Most people waste huge amounts of time analysing how they could have lived the past differently and worrying about the future. As Linda says, if you "live for the moment" (in the way a young child does) this will help significantly.

Regarding self confidence, do have a look at this article:

Self-Worth : How To Increase It

You also asked about self development courses. There are lots of courses around and I can recommend some really good ones. Here are some things to consider:

* Are you interested in ones that you can attend physically or do on line? i.e., how important is it to you to be with like-minded people?

* How much time do you have to put aside for your self development? And is this weekdays, evenings, weekends, etc?

* Do you see self development courses as ongoing or do are you looking for material to tackle specific needs?

Hi Siba, Life coach is also one of the way to improve your self confident. Because Life coaching motivates us to do the thinks more confidently which we unable to do like, we have fear in our mind related to particular thinks or topic then life coaching help us to remove that fear from our mind. thanks,

Hi Carolina,

Welcome to the Self Development Forum. You're quite right. Life Coaching can be very helpful indeed, especially since families today are not as 'extended' as they used to be in years gone by when people had great support and advice from their elders.

Thanks

I agree with the wonderful advice posted here. So many times we get caught up in past mistakes and relive past issues. We can't change the past. We don't own time machines. So put the past IN the past. Forgive yourself and move on. The only thing you can control is RIGHT NOW so focus on how you'd like to do things now and then do them. When you speak to yourself, speak in positive terms. I *will* speak up at the next meeting. I *will* attend that get-together. Studies show that speaking positively to yourself really does improve success rates. Your mind listens.

All great advice, indeed. One thing I found effective in boosting my self-esteem is just to ignore other people's opinion of me. It's not to say that I don't take advice or criticisms. It's best to not let the views of others determine what you are going to do or how you should act or think

I agree with Linda-- what's most important is positive thinking. Not only though, can positive thinking improve self confidence but I read in an article that, "Researchers at the famed Mayo Clinic found that learning more positive thinking was associated with tangible health benefits, ranging from greater resistance to colds to lower rates of depression, and from reduced levels of stress to an increased life expectancy. They believe that these effects may be traced to improved coping skills and healthier lifestyles. The more positive you feel, the more you take care of yourself."

Thank you JOY I agree with your comment. The Elders in our family are the first people who motivate us or we can say they are the real life coach for us.

Hi Rodav, thanks for your input. Yes, there's a fine balance between accepting constructive criticism and not letting destructive criticism drag you down. (JOY)
