All newslettters and ezines have an under lying tone of voice that helps to get the message of the newsletter across to the readers. Just make sure you give them something of significnce to read when they receive it.
I agree that readers like to connect with the writer as a person - they tend to tune out robo-mailers. The more you can present your content as written by a real human, the more likely the readers are to read it!
