Hi Connie. I love to watch the marmots. You should have seen this one mama who was so fat before her babies were born that she could barely get into her burrow. She is one happy mama now with two little ones running around. Their home is in an old tree stump that has burrows down into the ground.

A few minutes ago I saw a lot of white birds (large ones) soaring high above the little mountain. They were too far away to tell what they are. Must be Seagulls. Seagulls always fly over here on their way out to Pyramid Lake farther out in the desert. It is unusual to see them circling this far inland.

I saw a yellow butterfly this morning. IT just reminded me of how much beauty there is during the summer.

Chelle, it is so good to hear from you again.

I was just out back tossing unsalted peanuts to the squirrels. They come running when they hear the plastic bag crinkling when I dig out their peanuts. Then they stand out there with their little hands folded like they are praying, waiting for their treats.

Thanks Phyllis, it is good to be back. Squirrels are of course my favorite little critter. It is fun to watch them playing in my backyard.

Chelle, have you read through Jane's 'Hawk Nest Watch' thread? It kept us all so excited and gave us so much joy over the several weeks of watching the Hawks and waiting for the babies to appear.

It is a clear, bright and hot day out today. The little critters on the little mountain are really enjoying the sun and the Hawks are gathering, soaring overhead. These are times when I do not feed the squirrels, for if I do, that brings them out in the open and the Hawks are watching. I do not want to interfere with Nature.

This morning was a birder's paradise in my back yard. Keetowah was squawking, so I went out to say hello. Poppa Woodpecker was in the live oak. Our little sapsuckers had a successful clutch this year too. One of their young was having a hard time maintaining a grasp on the camphor tree bark. The little one kept slipping down the trunk with wings awkwardly flapping.

It was one of those cute moments to enjoy without concern. Momma Sapsucker was nearby. We had two pair of cardinals and quite a few other song birds. Even my neighbor was out with her daughter. I'm not sure what they were looking at with the binoculars.

We finally got the grass cut in the backyard yesterday, so there was good bug pickings for our feathered friends.

I just love birds! Since we put in our backyard pond, we have a lot of birds all year round. In the middle of winter, I'll see some crazy little bird bathing in the stream. They enjoy it in the summer, too.

Yesterday, I was watering our front yard after the sun went down. A robin family, mama, papa, and two mainly grown robins came to enjoy the mist.

Jane, I sent you a PM about helping a bird rescue. I don't want to post appeals in forums without knowing that it is okay with the editor. Let me know.
