Uh, nope! Wouldn't that turn some heads? A Japanese woman wearing a Scottish kilt? And I don't like publicly airing out my private business.

Would you wear a women's kilt?

I have a full length ladies evening kilt Lori, and have worn it to some occasions, but mostly it has just been sitting in the closet. It was made for me in the family dress tartan when I was 21. Mckenna does not have its own tartan but belongs to the McKenzie clan.

It is not like a man�s kilt, nothing like as much fabric, there are eight yards in a man�s garment, which in theory stops it blowing up, (actually most men do wear something underneath), while there are about three yards of pleats on the short version of a woman�s and the apron fastens on the left not the right. And for 'every day' it is more likely a type of tartan skirt would be worn.

Although a woman�s �kilt� is not as dressy, and there are not all the bits and pieces that accessorise the male outfit such as the sporran and belt, somehow especially the evening one is still more than just a skirt, and it can be worn with a fancy white shirt, shawl and traditional shoes.

Back in the mists of time a kilt was only worn by men but now of course there is even the eighteen inch mini-kilt, perhaps it is that that brought about the change in thinking!

Francine your kilt sounds great, and thanks for the info. on women's kilts. When do you get the chance to wear it?

I used to have to wear a kilt to school. I hated that big pin that hold the folds together. I was always waiting for it to stick in my leg.

LOL Lori ask Francine if your hubby can borrow her full length kilt, he wouldn't have any problems then.

Gosh of course Lori, now that is an idea from Linda, and your husband would be very welcome to borrow my kilt...........there would only be one very slight problem would he fit a US 'size 6', otherwise it is possible that even with the overlap we just might have to think of an alternative solution.

Uh, he won't need it. LOL. Hope he doesn't read this! If he does, I'm just kidding, honey. You know that!

I did a small poll asking 3 men whether they wore kilts and if so what they wore any under them and got the following answers from 3 kilt wearers:
1) Shoes and socks
2) Yes did wear something under kilts when wearing them as a child.
3) Depends on the weather...

After doing a search on the interweb (;P) we came across this intriguing discussion and felt we had to be involved - hope you don't mind! True Scotsmen wear nothing underneath their kilt! :D However in this day and age this also unfortunately means we shouldn't be sitting down too much, crouching, running, jumping, or be out in windy weather!
