well said phyllis - of course we reincarnate ive heard about a young girl who knew her old life and the people in it were in her present life as well? regression has proved the existence of reincarnation of the soul numerous times. i believe if we dont qualify for paradise then we automatically are reincarnated. some souls though can come back for a new life voluntarily, some have been back countless times before. i think if you enter google it may tell you about that woman who knew of her previous existence.

in the book- the power of the subconscious mind- the author states whatever we put on the screen of space by thought actually becomes reality, there is nothing impossible if we believe it has already happened. convince yourself that something has already happened and the subconscious brings it into reality and it comes to pass for real. dr joseph murphy is the author of this amazing book.

Phyllis, the show about the woman who found her previous life's children in Ireland - I saw that one too! Didn't remember until you mentioned it. There was also a show about a whole town of people, many of whom had lived together in the same area during the Civil War era.
I do believe in reincarnation and that some of us reincarnate in "groups." There are just too many parallels and connections in my life to disregard, not to mention all the documented cases. For me, the hard part is distinguishing between sources.
At 15 I went on our annual school trip to Jamestown, VA and DC. While in the historic Jamestown village I somehow knew where everything was. It did bother my friends and when we got to the old jail, they did not understand why I could not physically cross the threshold to enter. There was a "force-field" of repulsive energy and I blurted out "I can't go back in there!" My friends knew I had not been to Jamestown before in this life. I also knew this was actually a replica. Most of the buildings are not original or in the same location. When we got to the maze behind the Governor's mansion, I knew the way through and also knew where the root cellar was (not on friend's map).
At this age, my "antennae" were already out and very receptive, but I have always questioned the source of the information that day. Did I have memories of being there before? Or was I picking up on other people's memories? Or was my Guide having a little fun with me and my friends, freaking us all out with the impossible information in my brain?
34 years have passed and I still don't know where "all that" came from. But I have learned to trust the information provided, regardless of the source.

Do you think that our collective DNA brings with it memories from our ancestors? Do we mistake these 'memories' for 'past lives'?
If our DNA is collective then why not our memories? A little bit of everyone of us is passed on to another or given to us by previous generations, why not memories?

Linda, there have been many studies on what is called "genetic memory" (memories passed from generation to generation from ancestors to present life). See Genetic Memory and DNA for general information. There is also the term "collective-unconscious memories" that many psychologists have studied in relation to reincarnation. Paul Von Ward, author of The Soul Genome; Science and Reincarnation, wrote a very interesting review of Past Life Dreamwork by Sabine Lucas, Ph.D. Von Ward notes that Carl Jung, Pioneer Psychologist, wrote near the end of his life: "I could well imagine that I might have lived in former centuries and there encountered questions I was not yet able to answer; that I had been born again because I had not fulfilled the task given to me." and suggests that Sabine has "taken on his (Jung's) unfulfilled task..." You can read Von Ward's review at: Review of Sabine's Work

I would love to read about the town from the civil war era. That would be another example of "collective-unconscious memories" that Jung was studying. Your experience in Jamestown could very well be a genetic memory passed on from your ancestors, or actual memories of your past life experiences in Jamestown. This is a very interesting subject. I am enjoying reading everyone's thoughts on this.

It's been quite a few years since I watched these two shows, both the previous life's family in Ireland and the "reincarnated" town. But I think they were each in an episode of Mysteries of the Unexplained, or a similar series. When I get a few minutes, I'll see if I can find the program titles and which series they were a part of.
As for whether or not our souls or consciousness have weight, I'd have to rely on physics with that. Everything in the universe has mass, including energy. We may not be advanced enough to measure or quantify it, but that doesn't mean it weighs nothing or has no mass. Scientist are just now able to learn and experiment with subatomic particles.

Here's three more books based on things we have discussed here. The story of James3 is told by his parents Bruce and Andrea Leininger in "Soul Survivor."
The story Phyllis mentioned of the young lady who found her previous life's children in Ireland is recounted in her book "Across Time and Death" by Jenny Cockell.
Marge Reider is the hypnotherapist who stumbled on a group of people living in and near Lake Elsinore, CA who had lived together in Millboro, VA during the Civil War. She has authored 2 books, "Mission to Millboro" and "Return to Millboro."

Thank you for those links Phyllis.
I do not believe in reincarnation. I believe that everyone of us has just one soul. It comes to earth, does its time and then leaves. I do not believe that we are returned for a second, third or fourth chance to get things right. This life is our one and only chance to fulfill the tasks we are sent here for. Every thing on earth has a very specific task.
But I have always believed in collective memory that gets passed on in our DNA and genes. The thoughts and memories of our ancestors comes down the time line along with the colour of our hair and the tone of our skin, and those little habits we share with relatives.
I know you are not Muslims, but this is what the Quran says about souls.
Is there any equal to the One who controls every SINGLE soul? (13:33)
They will scream therein, "Our Lord, if you get us out of here, we will work righteousness, instead of the works we used to do." Did we not give you a life-long chance, with continuous reminders for those who take heed?... (35:37)
Or say, when it sees the retribution, "If I get another chance, I will work righteousness." Yes indeed. My proofs came to you, but you rejected them, turned arrogant and became a disbeliever. (39:58-59)
Even the Bible says we only die once.
And in as much as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, (Hebrews 9:27)

Oh, I've had this conversation before and it sucked 3 years out of my life that I'll never get back, lol...oh it hurt.
100's of quotes initially, that ended up turning into 1000's from all types of faiths and religions, and after reading through them all, each person that offered up a quote based it upon their own personal background, how they were raised, the religion they felt they had an exptertise of and even then went head to head with people from the same religious background arguing over who had the right one (just... TYLENAL!).
There is no one religion that speaks for everyone, there never ever will be, no matter what is built up or torn down or who wins one war or loses another, just isn't going to happen.
I appreciate the differences each person has, but truthfully, unless there's a single one of us that can snap together a Universe, all of its species, and natural laws, there's a good chance we don't quite understand all of its mysteries.
My theory? We're all a little bit right and off the charts just wrong, and have a lot to learn.
I often think how funny it is when people theorize, lecture, kill, supress and even destroy the world they themselves live in the name of religion.
So, it's like, after you get done hammering out your own think-tank on this planet, just where are you going to start when you finally realize there are more life forms, galaxies, planets and Souls out there, that have been a part of the same system we are, and around a heck of a lot longer.
Today I'm going to feed my husband a Ding Dong, have him read the black and white text on the back of it, compare peaceful notes about just how each of us feels that Ding Dong came to be and if I can find the guy that actually made the thing, I'll bet each of us will be wrong.
